I had a big house in CA which I could no longer afford. I had to quit work in '06 due to a very bad hip. I had fallen in love with the landscape here on a trip with my sister in '04. As I have noted before, ticks and chiggers are not visible when one is driving down the highway. I've made my peace with both of them, but still hate the humidity. Southern Californians are such weather wimps---bad weather there is rain on Saturday messing up your weekend.

Yes, I miss it. I miss being close to the ocean. I miss being close to my kids, but I don't know where those two rolling stones will end up so I wouldn't plan my life around them even if I wanted to. I have cousins in Ponca City, a niece in Norman, a brother in Texas, and my sis in Albuquerque---none of them places I want to live.

I have old, old roots in Arkansas. My oldest brother graduated high school in Stamps in 1948 and did two years of college in Magnolia before he enlisted in the Army.

Had I not chosen Arkansas, I would have probably picked Oregon. If I were a really, really rich woman, I wouldn't mind having a small apartment in NYC for half the year. Since I can't afford two places, I am happy with my choice.

Being close to Eureka Springs gives me access to the kind of restaurant eating I like. There are really smart, wonderful people in my neck of the woods. I have good neighbors that I couldn't duplicate if I searched a million years.

California which is often a bell wether for the rest of the country now has a democratic super majority in both houses of the legislature. Maybe now, Gov. Jerry Brown can begin to undo the damage of years of obstructionism by republicans there.

The demographic wave hit California in 1998 and they have adapted and welcomed it. An Hispanic, Harvard educated MD just ousted Mary Bono, Palm Springs congresswoman.

Two of the wealthiest areas of the state, Marin County and Silicon Valley, both are overwhelmingly in favor of higher taxes on the wealthiest. Does this signal a divide between the titans of the new tech economy and the old captains of old industries? I think it does.

My son, who works for a tech firm in Lafayette, says that there is lots of hiring in the area.

Arkansas will get there eventually. We owe it to our children to get there as quickly as possible.

Religions keep people ignorant, by design. The more ignorance one finds, the more religion one finds and visa versa.

There was a time when certain religions celebrated education. Few do today. Fundamentalist and evangelicals do not value education unless it's John Brown U or Quachita Baptist indoctrination.

There was a time when some churches sought to lift people up. It was a group of church leaders who last formed a group to put pressure and raise attention about Ark's horrible low minimum wage. After it took off bottom feeder Huck made it his own while gutting a provision to have minimum wage pegged to inflation.

Cowboy Reagan did much to pooh-pooh government spending on education. He led the Calif fight against gov paying for higher education. On a per capita basis government has been paying less and less for higher education. The rubes never notice they're busy blaming someone for Whirlpool going to Mexico.

Last night at the bar we did our usual dance of avoiding politics with a passion. Except for one guy who is about 73 years old. He calls himself a Democrat, not real sure why, he might have been one in the 1960s, but he's not a Democrat now. I know he voted for Romney and last night he started spouting what you mostly only find on Fox News.

He's so concerned by the 50% of lazy Americans who pay no Federal income tax...because they don't have jobs, don't want jobs, but want lots of free stuff from Obama...and get it. I tried to explain that I've recently found out mag & I are in that 50% though we didn't know it. I tried to tell him we work all the damn time but according to deals made between the White House and Congress we don't make enough in a year to pay Federal income taxes.

We didn't ask for it, we didn't even know it until that false claim caused me to go digging around. Of course we pay all kinds of other taxes out the wazoo. However, we are paying less taxes since mag's accountant put us on the Buffett tax plan which is perfectly legal. As non-flag waving patriotic Americans we hope the Bush tax cuts expire. We're willing to pay higher taxes in order for this country to move forward.

My old friend from last night grew up dirt poor east of Alma, made a fortune with his own hands, has more money than he can spend in 2 lifetimes, but obviously has Fox News on his TV 24-7 and truly believes 105 million poor, lazy, worthless Americans are coming after him. I must have shook him up in some manner because I see he called me at 8 am this morning and I doubt it was to try to sell me some Tupperware.

I wish I had a tazer to shock the pee out of any of my friends I hear repeating Fox News talking points word for word. I don't know what else would wake them up and make them quit self-dumbing down and scaring themselves by watching an extension of Karl Rove's office. And Tuesday proves how wrong Karl Rove is about everything.

It's Fox News and it's awful! A whole broadcasting company filled with Tokyo Roses & Axis Annies so easy to believe by the dumbest states in America. Stop that!
