Maybe in Arkansas it is still possible to ignore the future, but as Jim said in another thread paraphrasing Bob Dylan, times are changing.

I must confess Sky, I've been two-timing today...using sweetie's 17" laptop (rather than my usual 24" screen stuck back in a far room) and watching some great college fuboll. I once had a schedule similar to yours so, in many ways I long for the old days instead of behavior being dictated by outside weather and limiting my socializing to those who wear few chemical fragrances. Shiz, I used to wear some of the stuff myself but never the kind you can smell across a 50 ft room.

I suppose you're wise enough to appreciate that you can keep a strong work ethic going inasmuch that the alternative ain't too pleasant. I'm assuming you're doing volunteer work for some type of non-profit. Good on you.

eLwood: Hope you check back in and find this.

And I hope you don't interpret my tardy response as an indication of lack or interest or appreciation.

I appreciated your words of welcome about three or four days ago, but they were already two days old when I read them.

Here's a brief explanation for now, and for future reference: I'm only semi-retired, in an unofficial and loose sense. I spend about 20-30 hours/week in a private, independent voluntary service project. I don't have to punch a clock, but when there's work to do, I'm morally obligated to do it. And I'm subject to working at any given hour of day or night--mainly because I'm a small-scale insomniac.

Therefore I'm usually late getting to the blog, so others have already said about all I'd want to say, and/or the thread has already gone to sleep. And, of course, since I don't live in the Little Rock or the NWA area, I have no conversational interest in many of the posts.

On the other hand, sometimes I don't have any work to do all day, maybe even for a couple of days, so in those cases I spend a lot of time catching up on what I've missed for the past day or two, as well as hanging out on the blog putting in my two-cents' worth on several threads.

As it has happened, last week was fairly busy for me, and this week even more so. I logged 115 hours last month; 29 last week and 36 this week. These in addition to all the other stuff we retired old geezers do.

So thanks for missing me and welcoming me back. Oh, and many days I am actually here, sitting over in the corner just listening and keeping my mouth shut. "Blessed is he who, having nothing to say, refraineth from giving wordy evidence thereof."

And I'm still not quite caught up on all the threads I've missed, or gotten behind on, over the past few days, but if I run into any additional references to me, I'll find them.

Failure of Christian Right noted:

“Millions of American evangelicals are absolutely shocked by not just the presidential election, but by the entire avalanche of results that came in,” R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, in Louisville, Ky., said in an interview. “It’s not that our message — we think abortion is wrong, we think same-sex marriage is wrong — didn’t get out. It did get out.

“It’s that the entire moral landscape has changed,” he said. “An increasingly secularized America understands our positions, and has rejected them.”
One of the Darlenes had a screening at her place a couple of weeks ago. That movie about that kid who had six cents? "I see dead people." That one.

For some reason, put me in mind of the GOP and their followers.

Not THAT line. The other one.

"They don't know they're dead."
