Reading about the sacred nature of Fire in the Hindu Faith from the program of Louisville's recent Festival of Faiths, requires meaning and story behind our journies. The release of souls to the winds and the wonder of our deeper reasons for the colorful stories provides moments to enjoy the Thanksgivings of every being. In a fascinating way, as a point of interesect, Lake Charles was the first job for the local Rabbi of Temple Shalom. When viewing the documentary from the festival toolkit about Dietrich Bonhoffer (the theologian who perished in the final days of Hitler's War), the calling to do the right thing in response to evil, seems to prevail. Those sparks we try to make sense of to realize God's will or even to respect a differetn set of beliefs, is an element that is unqiue to this country's constitution., if only we would practice it. Recently the local paper had a headline about the city being awarded for use of technololgy. I am waiting to read a headline about the use of intelligence. For to understand the movement inherent to all families requires in each of, an appreciation for all of the enormous pressures and forces that make our "becoming" is upon us. The infinite nature of how and why we value can be understood. Though this eternal change placed is now on moving families, that is those who serve "the other". The pace of this change may require some heavy harmonies of our faith, businesses and governance before time runs out.

Max, great story. It's funny to think of the roll the military played to parents of folks our age. It seemed to be a way of life for so many families. And gave us the opportunity to experience living in other countries. Have a great trip, and I hope you meet Darielle's parents.

Max…..thank you for the beautiful story about your mother.

I thought about you and your mother today as you travel together to her final resting place. How proud she would be of the son who knew exactly where that place should be. What peace we would all find if we had the knowledge we would be as fortunate.

The story helped me understand how you became the person that you are. Your wanderlust is a gift left behind by another adventurous soul.

I hope your journey brings new and meaningful things to your eyes and a peaceful and fulfilling closure to your heart.

Great post, Max. And a great family you have there. I was thinking how things like war alter our lives in so many ways---in your case, a good way. My sister-in-law's parents met and married in England during the war. Both were from Wyoming but had to go half way around the world to meet each other.
Here's a cartoon for you radcen. I'm off to share dinner with neighbors.
Interesting that momma Betty Brantley was a Republican. My grandpa was too. In later years he would confuse Ike and god. Tremendous story and superb writing. Thank you!
Now, on this journey I demand some photos. Indulge us.

Thank you, that was beautiful. I've thought about making a similar trip with my father's ashes, to Austria where he lived and worked after WWII, and his hometown of Piper City, Ill., and the pine forest land he used to own in southwest Arkansas. Cheers, Max, and happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
