As far back as 2002 a portion of the Personal Property Tax Dollars collected in Pulaski County went to the restricted funds for roads/bridges in the county (3% of it in 2002). This funding mechanism has not changed since. See line 28 - Road & Bridge Fund Appropriation of the 2012 Pulaski County Budget Ordinance.

(In most other states, even more money from non-gasoline/car centric revenue is used on the roads. Arkansas is moving that direction with the advent of the sales tax)

According to the 2009-2010 AR Highway commission Biennial report:

Exhibit 5 reports $21M of county money used for State highways and county roads.

Remember where the road/bridge funds for Pulaski county comes from. Hint: It's not from gasoline sales.

Still, I do purchase gas for the cars I own. Have paid the state sales tax on them. Register them. So I have contributed to the gas/sales tax revenue that maintains the roads as well (highway 10).

Should there be a requirement that only gas using vehicles be allowed to use the roads? Think electric cars.

Next.

Citing a cyclist's lack of taxes paid for the roads used is one of the least successful arguments around because the gasoline sales tax to road formula applies to the interstates. (Where bicycles are usually not permitted anyway because of their limited speed)

On the other hand the state roads and local roads have been funded mostly from various other revenues over and above gasoline sales taxes (property tax, sales taxes, Real estate taxes,..) that I as well as everyone else pay whether we are a cyclist or motorists. Believe it or not cyclists own cars, put gas into them, paid sales tax on them, pay personal property taxes. They own homes and pay real estate taxes - just like most everyone else.

Some of those tax paying cyclists happen to use their bicycles for transportation as an option over driving their car on any one particular day. Their choice. Some of them may even be on their way home from work on Highway 10 at 5 PM on a Friday.

The City of Atlanta also has a petition, like Austin, to remain a part of the US on the White House web site. Interesting that you don't have to live in a state to start or sign the petition for a state. Also, there is not a Vermont petition on the website which probably indicates that they are far more intelligent than the Tea Pot brains that started this stupidity. Gee, why didn't Bush 2 allow this since I know he would have resigned in shame based on 1 million or more signatures and that wouldn't have taken over 2 days.

BTW, when Domino's or anyother business says they have cut employee's hours because they will be forced to pay for healthcare, what they are really saying is that they want their employee's healthcare and emergency needs to be paid by YOU since uninsured hospital/ER visits are either taken as a loss by the hospital and their costs spread over the bills of everyone who had insurance, that's US, or theirs are paid by Medicaid which is the state (our money) or the federal government (our money minus 10% for handling). What it really says is that I am too cheap to pay what I should be paying and the people who aren't even my customers and who would never order pizza from a horse's a$$ like me should pay for it while I enjoy my sports team and my large house.

I heard this story long ago, but it needs to be repeated. It is a perfect fable to explain the difference between the teabagger world view and the progressive/liberal world view. Thanks to commenter amai at BJ.

"There’s a story that is, variously, buddhist, jewish, christian about the difference between heaven and hell. A man is taken by the angels to see hell and he hears the sound of weeping and wailing. He is shown into a room filled with a long table groaning with wonderful food and drink and sitting at it are hundreds of people. But each person’s arm bends backwards and as they try to lift food to their mouths the food falls away from them, so they weep and gnash their teeth in eternal suffering and hunger. So this is their punishment, he thinks, that they are tortured by the near availability of food and drink but perpetually unable to touch it?
The angel then takes him on to heaven where he hears the sound of laughter and joy and conversation. In an identical room, at an identical table, people are sitting and enjoying themselves. He turns to the angel and says “so, this is the difference between heaven and hell? In hell people are prevented from enjoying what they have and in heaven everything is offered to the people freely? And the angel says “no, look again.” And he looks and sees that the people are configured in the same weird way, with their arms bending backwards—but here each person lifts food and drink to their neighbor’s mouth. And everyone, by working together, shares and enjoys what is good."

roads are paid for with motor fuel taxes, car sales taxes. Until july 2013, nothing but drivers of cars and trucks pays for highway ten. in july, half cent of general sales tax will start to pay for improvements to about 400 miles of state highways.

bikes certainly have rights to the road, but not by dint of user taxes paid. It dont happen

Domino's, Papa John, Godfather's Herman Cain, the Repug Lt. Gov. ... What is it about the pizza business that attracts right-wing nuts? At least the corporation that owns Pizza Hut dropped its sponsorship of ALEC after protests from Color of Change and other groups.

Other conservative restaurant owners like the Darden group (owner of Olive Garden, Red Lobster and LongHorn Steakhouses) and White Castle are cutting work hours of their employees to avoid paying for health insurance. It seems like you have to be evil to run a restaurant chain.
Taking a picnic basket with me is the only way I'll get a good meal when I travel nowadays.

I want the Republicans to continue to act exactly like they have the last 12 years. Please please don't change a thing! I hope Mitt makes a speech to his supporters every single day bashing, blaming and lying about everyone who was smart enough not to vote for him.

I hope Eric Cantor, old man McCain & the closeted gay Lindsey Graham talk on TV 15 hours out of every day. And we can rest assured those 3 will never be caught in a sex scandal...at least not with a woman.

I hope we hear tons of news about our many more Republicans in the Arkansas legislature. Cover us up, Max. Wag those tongues, introduce more and more bills on abortion, stay in that snatch, Pubbies! Piss Obama off as much as you can and be sure and sign up more of your idiots requesting permission to secede from the Union.

Please please don't change a hair on your head GOPissers, stay mad, be real loud....lie at the top of your lungs. It's the surest way to go the way of the Whigs, it can't happen fast enough and it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people.

"Argentine judge embargoes $19 billion Chevron assets
....
An Ecuadorean court last year ordered Chevron Corp to pay the enormous sum for contamination of watersheds over nearly 30 years that the plaintiffs say sickened indigenous tribespeople and farmers in the Ecuadorean Amazon.

Chevron has refused to make any payments and accuses Ecuadorean courts of fraud. Because the company has few assets in the Andean nation, the plaintiffs are seeking enforcement of the ruling in other countries including Brazil and Canada.

"The freeze order applies to the entire $19 billon amount of the Ecuador judgment, meaning that Chevron will effectively be barred from investing further in Argentina unless it wants to risk seizure of those assets as well," the plaintiffs said in a statement.
