Then after all of the worst scenarios pass through your mind, they ask for money. Built-in incentive to do something to keep them from being pissed with you. It's outright extortion, no matter what supposedly charitable reason the fund-raising is for. If a cop in uniform walks up to you in a store you own and asks for a donation, you'd likely assume it's for "protection" and donate "just in case."

It's damned extortion and should be illegal. As well as those State Police and FOP supporter bumper decals.

Of course, the Heritage Foundation proposal was somewhat defensive. It knew that national health coverage was coming in some form or another, but they wanted to intervene with a system that protected the profits of their benefactors.

Instead, Barack Obama adopted the proposal, with only minor changes. Rather than health reform being a Republican victory, it became the crown jewel and albatross of the Obama administration.
