Alex, there's a lot cheaper ways to get in touch with deaf people than Asa Hutchinson, even if you don't have an email address. I would think someone in the State Capitol has a TDD machine you coulda used to call her TDD. Even if you don't have one, just dial 711 and an operator will call her TDD and relay the message for you. (But maybe it's too much like the misnamed "Obamaphone" program for your boss' comfort?)

The point is this deaf women's vote didn't count. Won't count next week either. She got screwed and then labeled a nut and banned by arrogant assholes who live off our tax money. I've been voting in every election for the last 36 years and I would and will pitch a wall-eyed hissy fit the day I can't vote, the day my vote is disallowed or not counted......count on that.

I want all Republicans to keep on just like they are....don't change a thing, don't pull in your claws or pretend you give a good goddamn about anyone other than yourselves. Stay exactly as you are and please get louder and meaner and more hateful and condescending, by all means.

You're cutting your own throats for free and doing 10 times the job of killing your own party than 20 boatloads of George Soros money or the 8 members of the new Black Panther Party could ever achieve. Bravo! By all means please keep doing what you're doing!

I just read an article about the label "Republican" becoming toxic in the state of California. Only 29% of the voters in the last election called themselves Republicans, way down from the 2010 election. And the numbers continue to go down as people are fleeing the GOP on the west coast like they're running from the plague. Long time shit-for-brains like Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is greasing the skids for people to jump from the GOP. Go Dana Go!

This week Mitt Romney did a great deal of damage to the GOP image as did old man McCain and lite in the loafers Lindsey Graham, please gentlemen, do go on. I can't wait for next week to hear more insane whining from the losers on the right.

Stupid Franklin Graham, the son of Rev. Billy Graham after putting the Mormon church back up on the Billy Graham website in the cult list where it belongs took a cue from old dead Jerry Falwell and announced that the GOP lost the elections because "we’ve turned our back on God" yada yada yada, same old tired senseless shit out of Graham Generation 2.

Another way of looking at this silliness is God turned his back on the GOP and let the Democrats win because she can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to nominate a Mormon....a lying compassion-less Richie Rich robot Mormon who can't quit digging his hole deeper.

We won't believe that hocus-pocus any more, no higher power gives a damn about Arkansas or America or we'd be doing a hell of a lot better than we are. Talk to the hand GOPers, talk to the hand.

The pendulum is swinging back to the left FINALLY and the twin Marks, Martin & Darr will be out of Arkansas politics forever, cast on the dung heap next to the Hutchinsons.... and their toadies like Razorblade too. Bu-bye!

So please please! Don't change a thing, be yourselves, be louder, act meaner, keep it up and up and up! Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi! Tax cuts tax cuts! Birth control! Rape! Legitimate Rape! Urban Voters! Gifts! Free stuff! Don't stop! More next week! Go go go go Gop!

If so, I'm glad to see a public servant engage with the public here. This is a liberal blog, but it is generally tolerant of diverse viewpoints if they are done in good taste. (Of course, many tasteless posts are tolerated too, and I've posted some of them.)

But at the same time, even as a voter for Romney, I would not be glad to see a public servant refer to the opposing party as "Dumbocrats".

Yosmarian, someone receiving Social Security is not in the category of receiving "free mail money." You, like I, earned the check. I also earned a check through military and a second time federal service retirement. I also earned my combat-related disability check. I talk for myself, not Mark Martin or anyone else and am entitled to my opinion. In case you have not noticed, most Dang Yankees are arrogrant, it is an inherent trait. Government computer, government time, speaking for Martin, give us a break.
As far as outliner goes, I guess anyone with an opinion that does not match your CNN mindset is not entitled to one.
Good one, Razor. "Sitting home waiting for Obama mail money". That's hilarious and sooo original. I bet you could hire on with O'Reilly or Limbaugh or Beck or Hannity. Hell, I bet you could even be a speech writer for Romney. On second thought, Romney might not be much in demand on the speakers circuit after his epic fail.

Think about it though. Original thinking like yours is in such short supply. Everyone else just seems to mouth what they hear from the right wing media Wurlitzer.

      >> It is, sadly, reminiscent of the boss' combative remark to a newsman's jocular comment at a chamber of commerce event not long after he took office.<<

Mount Ida is the place:

"I was helping with a benefit auction at Mount Ida for the Chamber of Commerce, and pointed out to the auctioneer that we had politicians in the audience. Mr. Mark Martin, whom I had never met, came over to our table, squatted down and said, "I don't need some paperboy calling attention to me. I've already been FOIed by you bastards from the liberal media and I don't need anything from you tonight."
I was too shocked to say anything but, "I didn't mean to offend you."

He went back and sat down, but kept looking at me, came over again and said, "I came here out of the goodness of my heart so don't expect me to spend any money." And something about not ever running for office again because of "you newspapers."

At this point I had enough, stood up, and said, "I'm not one of your liberal media bastards out of Little Rock, and if you would like to continue this, I'll be happy to go out to the parking lot and give you a shot at whipping my country ass." [On reconsideration, Mike agreed to use his actual remark and not the cleaned-up version he asked that I use when I confirmed I could quote him.] He looked a little surprised, didn't comment and went back to his table."
Right on. Expecting competence from public servants is a stretch. In the month of Oct could the SoS website handle an additional 90,000 inquires?

Nice of you to mention all the phone contacts available to SoS since this thread is about a deaf person trying to vote and have her vote counted.

I guess since you can't spell "high-faluting" or "savvy," my comment was too complex for you to understand. I wasn't asking you to "do every thing for you from cradle to grave." I'll try to use smaller words.

The most important job of the SoS is to make sure that people can vote - not denigrating voters and threatening to sue them if they complain. The SoS office should be working actively to make the electoral process work, not sit passively like a blood-sucking tick. If that is too much to expect from an elected official, then get out.

Yes, information about the deadline to register was in the news, but that was not what I referred to, and you know it. The voterview.org verification site was not publicized until late October, long after the deadline and sparsely.

Yosmearian, you make a valid point or two not to mention throwing in a few high flauting words in the process. Sad to say the only sure way to register to vote is in person because other processes are flawed, especially organizational voter drives. Anymore, when I mail something important I use certified mail. I cannot disagree about state sites being difficult to harvest info from but this lady seemed reasonably computer savy. I did see pre-election SOS info about voter registration deadlines on line and in print media but at some point adult responsibility comes into play. Ooops, you are probably one of those Dumbocrats who believes government should do every thing for you from cradle to grave. As far as contact with "normal Arkansans" not many can be found on this site so not to worry about that.

Razorbad, Contacting the appropriate official or agency is so easy and intuitive .... if you are an institutional insider. Your condescending arrogance is appalling and should disqualify you from any contact with normal Arkansans.

I am relatively familiar with state government, but finding the pertinent information on state sites, especially the SoS site, is far from intuitive or easy. How is the average citizen to know "the best way" to do business with bureaucracy?

As far as verifying voter registration, I do not recall any widespread attempt by the SoS, to publicize the method of verification before the deadline ... and I am an avid news reader.

When a person mails in a voter registration form before the deadline, it is reasonable to assume that it will be duly processed and the person would be able to vote. As I mentioned a while back on this blog, corrupt or incompetent voter registration drives could "lose" the forms, leaving potential voters unregistered. Perhaps if the SoS office practiced due diligence and aggressively informed the public about verification procedures, incidents like this would not happen.

Start doing your job and stop tossing Republican spears willy-nilly.

Why is Asa! even considered a candidate for governor? The guy was in Congress, led the DEA, and led Immigration...that should be 3 strikes right there. In defending our esteemed county judge he actually used a defense of claiming that the judge (also a former state legislator) was illiterate and couldn't be held responsible for the contracts he signed. That defense at least kept his client out of jail though not in office. The only way Asa's reputation and resume could get worse would be by running for governor of a small southern state and losing. Oh wait, he's done that too!

Max, I missed your blog incorrectly noting my wanting to turn the SBEC into a police agency or I would have responded. What I sought was more board member interest in complaints and violations. For the record, I was not talking about getting involved in cases of voter fraud which is best left up to police agencies. Foolish me believed we had an oversight role to ensure county election commissions followed Arkansas Voting Law and Board Rules and initiate corrective action when nicely bringing it to their attention did not result in their shaping up. Although not covered in the Dem Gaz article, a lot of positive resulted from Wednesday's meeting and it was productive.

In the case of this voter, her shotgun approach seeking remedy would be better served if she filed a complaint with the SBEC (which is the appropriate venue per 7-4-118 (a)(3) and (4) as opposed to Facebook pages or even to Secretary of State) using the form that can be found at, http://www.arkansas.gov/sbec/pdfs/SBEC_Off…
Keeping in mind there are always two sides to every story, even if there may have been minor procedural missteps, her being voted on a provisional ballot was the appropriate way to go and her being afforded a hearing before the election commission made a final decision shows she was afforded her rights. The truth of the matter is if a voter is not registered to vote, they will be voted on a provisional ballot and the ballot will not be counted. That is why it is SO important for anyone registering to vote to check and ensure they are registered before the deadline. Had the voter taken that action, she would have learned there was a problem, registered and permitted to vote a regular ballot on Elelction Day. I understand her frustration but doing business via personal Facebook pages is not the best way. The voter claims she could not find a way to contact SOS via e-mail but I just went to the SOS page, selected state directory, typed in Mark Martin and came up with, arsos@sos.arkansas.gov If she could find his Facebook page she could have found an e-mail address. The web site also contains plenty of telephone contact information. I hope she follows up with the County Clerk and gets properly registered to avoid problems in the next election.

Yours truly,
Republican Spear Thrower :>)
