And in response to your 11:56PM post, as I recall republicans cut the budget for embassy protection. Also, the military no longer provides embassy protection in most places. I believe much of the work is contracted out to private contractor/paramilitary "industries" like Xe.
We do need a robust CIA presence in Benghazi, but apparently we've abandoned all posts now.

And thousands of surface-to-air missiles from Gaddafi's arsenal remain unaccounted for, after NATO blasted open the gates.

If you are going to ask it, radcen, the correct question is why wasn't the consulate closed down after the revolution. Benghazi was the capitol of the rebel forces, so the consulate/embassy was there.

I recall you speculating (maybe you stated it as fact) that Benghazi was to be a CIA outpost. If you are going to be a successful gadfly, you need to keep your stories straight.

eLwood, here's more re McCain's obvious mental slippage. Snip from linked article below: "McCain also complained that Rice is not qualified to be secretary of state, an odd choice of words from a man who once chose Sarah Palin to be a heartbeat away from the position of commander-in-chief. In McCain's world, the woman who had never traveled outside the U.S., didn't hold a passport, struggled through five different colleges in six years, and famously bragged she could see Russia from her house was qualified to be vice president of the United States but the woman who spent her life working on national security is not qualified to be Secretary of State."
MCain is now officially a dunderhead.

Anyone else enjoying some schadenfreude with the ongoing Rightwing meltdown?

John McCain (R) and Lindsey Graham(R) were given beacoup tv time this past week to bash the administration and generally go on a loud WITCH HUNT about the Benghazi embassy attach. In particular McCain and Graham strung up UN ambassador Susan Rice due to her comments about the attack. They went so far as to preempt Rice from any consideration for Sec of State. All bullshit all the time supported by the robotic heads at Fux News.

Now they don't talk so loud, now they don't seem so proud after having their dumb asses handed to them by the testimony of General Petraeus:
That new statue of Daddy Frank, set to be unveiled on Friday outside Razorback Stadium, should come with a New Orleans "Aints" like paper bag that can fitted over its head.
