We must help out our good brothers and sisters in the dry townships and parishes to drink of the Lord's wine, and while you're at it, don't forget the dry counties and the amount of liberal academic missionaries that have moved there and still do not have a liquor store. I will toast them tonight, and say, "Next year in Conway!"

I was only making an observation, not a judgement.

I grew up on Park Hill and, indeed, the church up there had a huge influence on the original vote. I wouldn't give it a chance in hell, now. That neighborhood has very little in common with its 1970's incarnation.

And they can vote wet for their own convenience, but I don't buy the economic development angle. The geography doesn't work. These areas are simply too close to wet areas to make any real difference. The tax income stills comes into the same city and county coffers.

Here's how JFK got dry. In the 50s and early 60s the grocery store, in the Lakehill Center sold beer. There was a beer joint down the road where the Hardee's is today, called the Lakewood Lounge. Then Pizza Hut opened a store and applied for a beer permit. I don't recall if they received it but no matter, the good folks at Park Hill Baptist got busy and managed to get every precinct that JFK ran though voted dry. Too bad Pizza Hut, no beer, not many sales.

Mystery, The disappearance of full-service gas stations staffed with teen pumpers, had more to do with oil companies wanting to maximize profit with fewer employees, not because the stations now sold beer. For that reason, Dollar stores, pharmacies, Wally's World, and grocery stores still hire people under 21, even if the stores sell beer & wine - they can get those employees cheaper.

Before the self-serve gas stations became the rule, the teens gassing up our cars had attitudes more like grumpy or insolent, but certainly not cheerful, unless they'd been huffing the gasoline.

Selective cause-and-effect imagining is a wonderful tool.

Where do you live again? First off if you are getting full service at a gas station, you are doing it wrong. 2nd, on JFK, there are no teens working at the convenience stores, only lazy ass clerks.

How might this affect the number of businesses that can offer employment to youth in the community? Once many of these gas stations, pharmacies, dollar stores, etc get permits to sell beer they will no longer be able to have any teens on the payroll. Which is more important, job opporuntities for teens or beer on every corner? Prior to the early 1980's when gas stations could not sell beer, they were one of the largest employers of teens in the state. When was the last time you pulled in to get gas in a wet county station and had a cheerful teen pump it and wash your windshield? Someone needs to look at the current youth unemployment numbers in wet vs dry counties and compare them to the numbers from the pre beer in gas station era of 1980 Arkansas.

There era of "we will remain pure and in poverty" is over. The era of treating adults like children is over. The era of sacred wet ground vs sacred dry ground is over. The grasp of the drive-in window Baptists controlling the world is over.

Plus we must make plans for legalized marijuana sales in the near future. It's coming even if I don't want to smoke pot any more. Every adult is now free to play the lottery in Arkansas and no one died. We gots the Internet for more free porn than we can watch in 20 lifetimes....and no one died.

Beebe took 2/3rds of the sales tax off groceries and Arkansas still has a whopping surplus. We can shop 24-7 without blue laws except for liquor & beer and we should quit restricting booze on Sunday because it's a 19th century idea whose time is over. We can expect a lot less GOD in our government in the future and I thank Allah for that.....no actually I don't believe in Allah either....I'll just thank my lucky stars!

Women wear pants and go without bras and yet Arkansas survives! I have seen our outdated liquor laws at work first hand and know they're so FK'ed up in order to deliver great wealth to the few while extracting larger amounts of money from our pockets. It's that way in all of our 50 states for the exact same reason. Time to scuttled all that with advanced apologies to the monopoly booze distributors who art in LR.

Everyone in Pulaski County who wants to drink is already drinking. Same can be said for pot, I guess the same can be said for whoring too. All 75 counties should be wet in order to enjoy the profit and advancement that comes with an equal playing field. Why force your population to dump their money in the next county over or in southern Missouri or Roland, Oklahoma or Tunica, Mississippi? Let us all share the wealth! I'll drink to that!

They want to expand the availability of alcohol, but still want to jail sick people using marijuana? I know the word is overused, but "hypocrisy" is the guiding principle of American politics.
