Interestingly enough, Congress may currently be the dominant factor in monetary policy. If banks are currently unable or unwilling to raise additional capital, coming increases in required captial asset ratios as required by Dodd-Frank could be preventing banks from lending and keeping the growth rate in the money supply low.

Anyway, it's always fun to see people who would otherwise be calling for bankers heads come out to defend them.

That said, I am open to ways of improving it and increasing transparency.

As for going back to gold instead of greenbacks, does anyone really want to put the recessionary/inflationary cycles in the hands of gold miners?

People who advocate for returning to gold or doing away with the Fed are economic illiterates.

I don't think there should be such a drastic action taken towards the Fed, but I'd like to have all of the federal reserve boards have more independence from the business and bank world. Did you see who's on the board in our area?

I'd like to see the membership have more consumer and worker advocates instead of bankers and businessmen. I'd be willing to compromise and say 1/3 economists, 1/3 business/bankers, 1/3 consumer/public advocates.
