After returning to this thread several hours later, it occurs to me that my comment was inappropriate and uncalled for. Every time I read about a fatality involving a sport bike, I immediately picture the ones that I see riding them irresponsibly. I did not mean to make a judgement on this young man, but i see why my ill-timed comment was taken that way.
My condolences to friends and family of the deceased.

      “I can't believe anyone would be so insensitive . . .”
MBJK, JKLO99, and Greyhound101— read my 11:21 AM post again. Carefully. Notice that I was speaking about many young, risk-taking bikers in general — not your friend, Jeremy, in particular. My only reference to Jeremy (by all counts an honorable man) is in the final sentence, an expression of sympathy to his family. And any other family unfortunate enough to be faced with a loss like his in the future.

I can't believe anyone would be so insensitive and make claims about someone they didn't know. Jeremy was such an amazing person who was passionate about life, his daughter and family and bikes. He was well taught and accidents happen. This is not the forum to speak negatively about the deceased.

Motorcycles have been a great source of happiness or means of distraction from my problems since I was 14. I'm 48 now. I've never had a wreck or an injury beyond the stitches and scrapes that I suffered when I learned to ride on a 75cc street/trail bike with a top speed of 45 mph back in the 1970s. I heartily encourage any new riders or those with limited experience to take a safety foundation riding course. It'll teach you how to survive.

Arkansas used to have a 250cc limitation for riders under the age of 16, but I don't know of any other limitations for engine size or if they even still do that now...and I've had two 250cc sportbikes that were able to exceed 100 mph while having other 500cc & 650cc bikes (both cruisers) that could barely hit 80. A Suzuki G60 is a cruiser style bike that doesn't lend itself very well to sportbike style riding so it seems to me that maybe he just didn't see the curve.

Stupidity is commenting on someone's death that you have absolutely no idea about. Jeremy was a great man , awesome friend and even better father. He was an active member of the military ready to serve and protect this country. He did have his motorcycle license and has had that bike for years. He knew how to drive it and I've rode it with him many times. He was on his way to an event and was running late. He doesn't always speed so you can't remotely compare him to all of those idiots your referring to. Next time you decide to comment on someone's death you should keep the comments to yourself because you two look like idiots.

Jeremy was one of my best friends. I know a lot of crazy people. He most definitely was not one of them. When I explained to my mom who it was, her reply was; "The one who always said yes ma'am, no ma'am?" He was very respectful to those he knew, as well as those he didn't. To assume him to be a crazy driver, stupid, or anything else that questions the morals of a person/ soldier (which he was) who just died is pretty low. It doesn't take stupidity or lack of experience for an accident to happen. People are involved in accidents every day. It just sucks when it's actually someone you know.

I race motorcycles, and I think that it is ridiculous that a person without any significant training or experience can buy a motorcycle that will reach speeds of 170mph. Even worse, they can operate the machine on public roads, which exposes the general public to their stupidity. I am required to wear a seatbelt in my truck, yet I can ride a motorcycle while wearing only flip-flops and a speedo??

Males. Late teens; early 20s. Saturated with testosterone. And totally out of touch with their mortality. See ‘em on their bikes most every week on LR freeways.

Bumper-to-bumper traffic, but here comes the G60 or whatever. At extremely high speeds. zzzzzZING! zzzzzzzzzZANG! Zing, Zang, Zing, weaving in and out of traffic, taking all kinds of chances, and scaring hell out of everybody else in the process.

Sooner or later comes the Arkansas State Trooper to the family’s front door with the terrible news. And nothing will ever be the same.

Condolences to the family of Jeremy King. And all who will follow.
