It was the book, When Bad Things Happen To Good People. One the passages that struck me was about babies who don't make it. Though the words weren't able to make me feel happy about things like this, the author pointed out that modern medical techniques were saving babies who would have died for sure 20 years before.

But the flip side is that in some cases the baby who would have died at birth or soon after would sometimes live for 8 or 10 or 20 years and then die of what ailed him at birth. I'm sure your family loved the fire out of Baby James now, but how much crueler his death would have been if he had lived to be a walking-talking 6th grader looking forward to junior high.

Well....this is like talking about which is better, burning up or falling out of an airplane.... I found comfort in that book written by a Jewish Rabi and all your blog friends wish we could give comfort and aid to your family but of course feel powerless to be of any help at this time. I hope in a few years Baby James gets a new baby brother or sister. I kinda think the world needs some more Polaceks to brighten our future.
