Looking forward to hearing how your family enjoyed their visit to Little Rock, Daniel. Did you go to Ashley's for Thanksgiving or for another meal? We did Thanksgiving there last year and it was terrific. But its always nice to be able to order of the menu at a place like that. How was Local Lime?

This was the first year that I wasn't completely worn out with cooking a feast -- we still had the feast -- but I had much loved help in the kitchen. My daughter-in-law and son were magnificent, chopping, and mashing and doing the heavy lifting, while I stirred and seasoned and directed. My daughter baked the pies. We fed 11 and had a wonderful time.

Did I actually say "turkey noodle dressing?" Pretty sure that should have been "turkey noodle soup." I admit to being on my phone and having had some holiday cheer in me.

Also, Kevin, Cafe Amore is my favorite pizza in Eureka, but I haven't had the place you mentioned. And Guillermo's is the best cup of coffee in the Rock for sure.

I was supposed to host Thanksgiving for 6 but came down with nasty upper resp bug the weekend before Turkey fest. I picked up multiple sides from Diane's, eggplant parm, broccoli & rice, green bean casserole (not as good as mine but okay) & soup for myself. Wondermouse daughter picked up the slack with turkey & desserts. Yay for Diane's & Wondermouse daughter. Good food in a pinch. I was told I was too late for their Thanksgiving dishes but what I got was really good according to those whose tastebuds were in working order. And I got to collapse with my soup & multiple cups of hot tea.

Wife and I celebrated a bit Tuesday night, walking from our downtown condo a few blocks to the Capital Bar and Grill. We started with a glass of Jordan Chardonnay, a rock star wine), while gnoshing on the fabbo complementary fried black-eyed peas (salty, greasy, crunchy -- our three favorite food groups) and the world's best pimiento cheese served with homemade saltines that are more like light chips. We then each had a cup of soup -- she the silky-smooth butternut squash and me the world-class gumbo. We finished up with banana pudding unlike anything we'd ever had -- from our moms or at church potlucks: rich, made-from-scratch pudding and light, crisp, perfect housemade vanilla wafers. Everything at the Capital is top-flight -- service, surroundings, food and wine, as this meal proved.

      Free Food Trucks Starting Routes

So it all worked out for some of us and the Free Stuff just keeps on keeping on. The Winning Team brought 80-degree weather to Little Rock today (and in November!) and the Free Breakfast Truck arrived on time: Pancakes with strawberries and cream, grits, homemade beer or Starbucks coffee. Then, if you wanted, two marijuana cigarettes (only) per person. You did have to show proof that you voted for him or sign a pledge to vote for him for a third term.

The Free Lunch Truck was a little late, and much grumbling ensued. Lunch was roast beef and gravy, homemade rolls, fresh green beans and new potatoes with apple pie, plus two more joints for those who wanted. A vegetarian menu was available.

Right now we are waiting for the Free Dinner Truck due in a couple of hours. There were complaints flooding the White House switchboard that the trucks were running too close together, but officials said it would take time to get everything sorted out.

Everyone on my street is chilling out, people playing Frisbee up and down the block. The new sound system set up on the street Saturday was working well and the Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo sounded fine. Tomorrow the Free Dinner Truck people said they had another Gift: SEEDS, fertilizer and gardening tools so we can grow our own!

Mother-in-law and I brined a turkey and it turned out fantastic. I've got some breast meat, some dark meat, and both in-tact drumsticks. Can't decide if I want to do dumplings or if I want to make a turkey-noodle dressing.

Black Friday protest meal: A Vino's Specialty Pizza and a couple of pints of Josiah Moody's badass Holidaze.

We've had some pizza debates here lately, and Vino's is always going to be my favorite. Happy holidays, y'all!
