If you guys are using Firefox, you need to add on no script and adblock plus. Between those and my Avast! virus software, I have no problems at all posting on AT and haven't had a virus in years. I suspect that an ad is trying to load that has a video or some other sort of Flash malfeasance embedded in it, that spinning load icon sometimes happens to me on other websites unless I tell no script to block all URLs except for the ones specifically used at that particular website.

      DBI and all,
I experienced all those troubles until I switched to Google Chrome.
It will take a few days of getting acquainted with it but you'll like the
speed and simplicity of google chrome much better. Nice thing is that
Chrome will import all your bookmarks or favorites in case anyone is using
IE.

I too didn't stay "logged in" but a sign in each day will do it for me using
google Chrome, until you close the browser. Chrome also clears out spyware cookies.

There's another possibility. For those using Mozilla there's a few widespread viruses called "redirect virus." I had to rid Mozilla of it a few times. Every time you attempt to enter something it seeks to redirect you to a different website. It could be attempting to do so on these pages but the server doesn't allow it so you get a freeze up, or so that's my best guess because the freeze-ups ceased after I ridded Mozilla of the redirect virus.
Why we can't have better art and senstivities towards artistic expression is absolutely why we must strive to understand our expressions. I would just ask how did the art culture end up being concentrated within this small area, when there is room for 100% spaceing, placement, and value for expression within and across the "Ark"? Citizens jsut don't lock away their heart, art and wallet for only themselves do they? How does a great city experience a Henry Moore "Knife on Edge" in the cross of an intersect?

DBI - It's complicated. Perhaps your Firefox is trying to raise a error message window or a login screen when it locks up.

I'm using the Safari web browser, and I believe arktimes.com now uses OAuth protocol for logins, but the server or web client seem to be losing authentication sometimes. I usually don't use the "Remember Me" login option, and was accustomed to entering my email address and password with each message posted. But lately it seems to accept messages without doing that login each time, so the way that cookies are being handled may have changed. I get an occasional error message about not being logged on after clicking the Post Comment button - but the top of the page shows my account logged in. When that occurs, I use the Copy command to temporarily save my message, click the "Log Out" link at the top of the page, get back to the thread, paste the message in again, click the Post Comment button again, log in again, and then things get back to normal for a while.

There is also a lot more JavaScript execution happening, especially for loading blog responses and dynamically inserting that content into the page. I won't send instructions about how to use the Firefox JavaScript debugger. But if you are using a Mac, you might launch the Console.app utility and look for Firefox error messages, there could be a helpful clue there.

The justices on Monday left in place a lower court ruling that found that the state’s anti-eavesdropping law violates free speech rights when used against people who tape law enforcement officers.
I sometimes have the same problem, DBI. It is not consistent though. You have to re-copy and paste any links in the new browser page.

Your mention of Ashcroft reminded me of something I tried to do back in the day when the Miss Priss of Missouri put drapes over the Spirit of Justice statue at the DOJ. I tried to get 30 women---that seemed like a safe number---to go to DC, find out Ashcroft's route to work in the AM, and stand on the curb and flash our breasts at him as he was driving by in his limo. I had a good variety in the 10 women who were game to do it---small breasts, big breasts, mastectomized breasts, enhanced breasts, perky breasts, sagging breasts, you name it.

I stalled out at 10 and dropped the project. I bet Ashcroft calls chicken breasts white meat and chicken legs are drumsticks.

Vandals damaged a new hundred thousand dollar bronze historical plaque project in downtown Fort Baptist a few weeks ago too. They apparently did it because they could. A witness saw 3 guys walking down the street about 10 pm one night and out of the blue attacked one of the bronze plaques in one of the blocks that's busier at night. Maybe they were drunk? Drunks often think somethings a damn good idea until they sober up the next morning.....I speak from personal experience.

No matter, it does leave you with a feeling that we just can't have nice things. Fortunately the damage done to the plaque will only amount to about 500 dollars and plans are being made to make each of the 12 bronze plaques more secure in the future.

This makes me remember that a few years ago vandals cut the penis and balls off a bronze dog on display at one of our local parks. The life size bronze dog was anatomically correct but not in any way vulgar unless one is overly concerned with canine genitals. Was the attacker a teenager thinking it would be funny to saw off bronze genitals? Has John Ashcroft been to Arkansas lately? Was some Nazarene offended? I guess we'll never know the answer, but again......it makes one think we just can't have nice things.

In 10 years a person won't be able to walk 10 feet without being observed by an authoritarian camera. Though my streaking years are well behind me, I'll never enjoy such surveillance....it's just creepy....what if I'm giving my nose a good picking? Or adjusting my unit? Or kissing a woman not my wife (fat chance these days).....well, at least our public art will be safer I suppose.

Without religion people would be more likely to live in peace. Without humans life, earth would be damn near perfect, but due to self preservation, I don't want to pull at that thread.

Saw this on my evening walk last night. WHY DON'T THE POLICE PATROL THE RIVERMARKET? There's a substation a block away from this statue. We hear constant stories of robberies, assaukts, etc in the largest tourist draw in Little Rock.
