In the last 3 decades I know of only 5 people who suffered egregious treatment at hospitals. 2 incidents resulted in the death , one of them was quite healthy before going to SVI for a procedure. Of those 5, 4 were at SVI. I would not take my puppy dog there.

It seems to be a practice everywhere that the giant hospital corporations are trying to run the independent physicians and clinics out of business. In the City of Rogers now, I know of only one general practitioner who maintains an independent practice. All of the other doctors work for either Mercy Health or Northwest Health. What is the difference between doctors working for monopolies and working for the government? I maintain that it would be better to work for the government. People, at least, would have some recourse. I have a friend who is currently visiting a daughter living in London, England. He developed a serious illness while there, and is being treated in the country's "socialized" health care system. His daughter reports that he is getting excellent care--as good or better than he could get in this country. Even though he is a foreigner, he will not have to pay anything other than what his health insurance pays.

*Couldn't be better - Actually I wasn't clear on that. It actually IS an increase in collections.

The changes that SVI made essentially result in a change of service. Instead of being seen in "a clinic" that fact that a hospital owns the building makes it an "a hospital outpatient department."

So the doc still charges $200. Under the old system the insurance would pay $100, but now that it is a "hospital outpatient department" the hospital collects $140, a full 40% increase in collections. (If you are uninsured you probably get stuck with the original $200 anyway)

But to be fair, it isn't just SVI and cardiology. It involves other specialties and other hospitals who are buying private practices and making them part of the hospital.

Pay more for the same thing.

Couldn't be better, I hear SVI has already approached Conway Regional sometime last year about a "merger" / takeover, so be prepared. If the Affordable Care Act increases the number of insured patients doesn't that make "charity" care and uninsured care obsolete? Won't we need more access points for patients that have previously been uninsured? With 10,000 baby boomers turning 65 everyday I would think that Healtcare stocks/services would be going thru the roof?

It used to be called "healthCARE" but apparently with the bean-counter mentality of a Walmart, it is ""bonusCARE". Thank goodness, my health plan isn't based on anything at St Vincent's (unless they take over Conway Regional and Baptist but that may be their overreaching goal). They can raise their rates 40% but the insurance reimbursements will not rise so the person who shows up for uninsured care better have the number of their bankrupcy attorney available (maybe one will move into that Sherwood office). Yopu can sign that paper along with all of the other releases they make you sign.

Oh and also pay those consultants like Navigant and" Deloitte and Take your money" huge fees. UAMS here they come, hope your ready to be merged!

The CEO at SVHS, St. Vincent Peter Banko, makes approximately $650,000 plus his bonus. In addition, while the health system was floundering and drowning in red ink, St. Vincent Peter Banko found a way to spend $250,000 on his and other executives new office suites. Dr. Cobb is not the first physician with whom SVHS will disassociate themselves. Dr. David Lipschitz and several hospitalists were also let go. The reason behind each one is financial. Imagine being a patient at St. Vincent Peter Banko and wondering if your doctor is making a decision based upon your health or is he/she making a decision based upon the hospital's financial health.

Hospitals, the one who invented the $40 aspirin tablet, want to control the upcoming health care system. They will squash anyone who is not part of their system.

Think they are doing that to save money? HA!

Look at the finances of SVI recently buying cardiology practices, (and BMC in back handed type way). Effective immediately SVI raised the fees by 40% in each of those practices.

A 40% increase in costs - over night - for the same services by the same people. Can you think of another industry that could do that?

Oh, if they could put a SVI doc in the above office, they could get a 40% there as well.
