Abortion, like drug addiction and euthanasia, should be dealt with in the medical, not legal, arena. But if there has to be a law regulating the practice, I think Roe v Wade got it right.

A fertilized egg may represent life, but that certainly doesn't confer upon it automatic full-fledged U.S. citizenship, much less full-fledged humanity, until after the fetus can successfully survive outside the womb, which is usually in the third trimester.

I really wish Roe v Wade didn't exist at all. Every woman should have the natural right to make that decision for herself.

And as we've seen the past 365 days alone, the lack of an abortion resulted in the death each time of two human beings that we know about

Case 1: Puerto Rico. Pregnant mom denied cancer treatment so as to preserve the fetus. End result: Mom dies, fetus dies.

Case 2: Ireland. Miscarried fetus remains alive in womb. State will not abort fetus until it dies on its own which eventually it does but not before infecting the blood of the mother. 2 days later, mother dies from blood infection. End result: Mom dies and fetus dies.

Abortion is far from a yes/no issue. It is horrific it is a tragedy. Equally tragic is the death of the mother. The circumstance around any one abortion decision can be too various to subject a woman to the rigid whims of some laws probably written by a man. She and her doctor are to have the opportunity to make a decision based on her unique case alone.

Next.
