I've been a long-time patron of El Porton in WLR and have been delighted to recently discover a new addition to their menu. They offer a variety of tacos that you can order in any combination for $2.99 each or add beans and rice and have a dinner for a few dollars more. I have tried several of the tacos so far and they were delicious-I especially like the carnitas with green salsa, and the beef brisket tacos. They also offer several chicken options, fish etc. They list the salsa that is supposed to either be on the taco or served with it--green sauce, chipotle, tomatillo, etc. All the tacos I tried were delicious but they initially served them without any sauce both times I ordered some. However, when I asked for the salsa, they brought out several different options so it actually worked out better because I had more options to try. I think they have updated their menu to compete with some of the newer Mexican restaurants. I like Mexican food from other places too but El Porton is still my favorite and now I have even more options to choose from!

Tried out the Dogtown Cafe finally after reading an earlier review in the AT Blog. Great food. I had the pork sliders and they were excellent. Good unsweetened blackberry tea and the potato salad that came with the sliders was very good as well. My sister really enjoyed her pimento cheese sandwich and side salad. We'll definitely be eating there again.

After a few excellent lunches, had dinner at Natchez this week. The gnocchi with crab appetizer lived up to the buzz i had heard and lighter than most gnocchis (a good thing). Had the Osso bucco served over creamy grits. Fork tender meat with the Southern spin of creamy grits. For dessert, a slice of chocolate, coffee, and salt cake, which I would gladly order again. Overall, an excellent meal. Please give this young chef a try.

Fresh Market does cannolis. Not the best ever, but not bad for a supermarket.

We tried Local Lime this week and it lives up to the hype! The zucchini salsa with crema and pumpkin seeds is unique and very tasty. I tried a pork belly taco, a chorizo taco, and a shrimp taco. All three were delicious with fresh flavors that really worked well. DH had the chicken tacos with cilantro rice and black beans and reported very favorably on his choice. One other note - BEST FROZEN MARGARITA EVER. Next time, I plan to try the pisco sour as recommended by John Beachboard and some more tacos.

A good cannoli in Little Rock, hmmm. I have tried several places here and DiCarlo's on Stagecoach does a decent job. I have not been impressed with Cannoli's in general in AR. I'm sure if Vesuvio does one, but for some reason I don't think so. Cannoli's are not really a staple for this region since we are absent of real Italian bakeries and restuarants in Central AR. The only small family Italian restuarant I can think of is D'Carlos. Please let me know if you find some good ones around here.
