These numbers don't begin to touch the real State/corporate/oligarch wealthfare at work.

Free trade, low taxation on the rich, high regressive taxation (everything has ten percent or more sales taxation now) on the rest, awful wages which haven't risen for decades, no or awful benefits. Always at the expense of environment among other things.

I overheard a fellow today talking about how he left Tulsa to stay with a company he's worked for for years... to move with them to NWA at a dramatic wage cut (same job, same company) only to find considerably higher costs of living here ta boot.

Despite the fact he liked it here well enough, he's moving back.

States and their owners are playing us against each other on so many levels for so much more money than we can even count.

“Apple in Austin joined Dell that was already there because Boston wouldn't give Dell 'corporate socialism' to come there.” ~ couldn’t be better

cbb, probably a bad idea that Boston didn’t provide Dell with some "corporate socialism." Particularly, given the fact that the Massachusetts economy has been in freefall, bleeding tens of thousands of jobs since the collapse of the tech bubble.

Remember Massachusetts Gov. Patrick blasting Romney at the Dem. Nat’l Convention because of Mitt’s pitiful economic record while he was governor?

Bottom line: Austin gets Apple’s 3,600 new jobs (doubling its current workforce there), thanks primarily to $21 million from the Texas Enterprise Fund.

As for Sasol, it considered several other states before picking Louisiana. You can guess which of those states promised the best incentives package. The Louisiana Economic Development Commission says about 850 of the new Sasol jobs will pay average salaries of $89,000, not including benefits.

We could use a bunch of that here in The Natural State. No?

Durango, I think it has more to do with the lack of education. Apple in Austin joined Dell that was already there because Boston wouldn't give Dell "corporate socialism" to come there. It is interesting that Mississippi's auto plant had to train employees using picture books because of their glorious education standard (just below ours, BTW). Ethane crackers are put where there is gas feed stock since ethane is a 2-carbon molecule and like most of the stuff in plastic, comes from the oil that we contuinue to waste on cars. Mendeleev, over 110 years ago said that petroleum was too valuable to burn but we continue to waste it that way. When it is gone, not only do you have to find something for cars but the bigger issue is that it is also the feedstock and compoenet for plasstics and pharmaceuticals where they really isn't an alternative.

“Arkansas spends considerably less [on economic development] than most of its neighbors.”

Which may be why Apple is taking 3,600 new sales and accounting jobs to Austin.

And why Volkswagen is adding 800 new jobs at its Chattanooga plant, increasing the plant’s work force to more than 3,500.

And why Sasol Ltd., will invest up to $21 billion to develop an integrated GTL and ethane cracker complex in Westlake, Louisiana, creating 1,253 direct jobs and an estimated 5,886 indirect jobs.

Just sayin’.

Whew! I'm so glad that BAD BOY INC is getting help with our tax dollars! Arkansas doesn't have enough bad boys as it is, we need more!

It's just an age old racket that keeps our rich in riches. This kind of help is far more important than feeding the starving, healing the sick, or educating a damn kid. Who'll work for nothing on the Arkansas Plantation if their heads are all filled up with book learning?

Maybe the reason you and I aren't rich is because we go for decades without any handouts from the government? Think of all those years you've missed out on your free check or big reductions in your tax bill. Mitt was right, us 47% are behind the 8 ball, but it's because we don't get handouts from the government.
