I second outlier's nomination of the under-paid, over-worked non-political Arkansan just trying to survive as the big guys play games with their future and in too many cases, their survival, with attempts to destroy all forms of support that keep the marginal survivors going while the big guys, corporations, and all the money continue to play games in Washington like there aren't real impacts on the lives of real people and, in too many cases, not really giving a damn anyway.

DBI, Brubeck was a native Californian. See the remembrance by someone who saw him perform in his eighties posted by me under "Busy Day" thread.

Without denigrating anyone's nominations, I would like to nominate the unsung, underpaid heroes and heroines who keep the wheels turning in Arkansas for the rest of us---the minimum or low wage workers!

They do all the crap work for us bringing us low food costs, changing our elderly parents dirty diapers, cleaning up the messes we leave in hotel rooms, stocking the shelves at our stores, etc. etc. etc. They do this day-in, day-out for crap wages, no medical insurance, no dental insurance. Then the powers that be dump on them as moochers and takers when they have to rely on ERs for medical treatment because the threshold for Medicaid is so low in this state. How many of those people are working right now with a raging toothache in this state? I'll bet it is more than a dozen or two.

In honor of hugh mann who is no doubt already in deep mourning I'd like to nominate the very recently late Dave Brubeck who made the world beautiful for all of his life. We'll not see the likes of him ever again.

I'd throw the name Bill Clinton out there. With his unselfish efforts the most popular American in the world today gave us the 2nd term of Barack Obama. Hillary is an equal for being the best Secretary of State we've seen in a long time.

How can Arkansas still be in 48th place after giving the world Johnny Cash, Glenn Campbell, Louis Jordan, Tyson, Wal-Mart and Bill & Hillary? We're a goldmine but only get the shaft.

PS I love you, Norma!

      Cody Belew, maybe?

I have no idea. But I'm pretty sure NOT Mike Huckabee.

The Darlenes were all sitting around last p.m. sipping banana daiquiris (with actual bananas for added nutrition), pondering whatever happened to Monica Lewinski’s line of purses and where Lindsay went wrong smacking a psychic at Avenue and stuff.

Renee’s mother, Millie, was there (she’s had work done, but discreetly; not that overdone Arnie Klein resculpt crap—isn’t he in prison or something?—and looks fabulous) and she’s sharp as a tack. She saw Daniel Ellsberg (the Pentagon Papers guy) calling Bradley Manning a hero.

Which he is, plus he's gay, so two birds. Then we got onto politics and the whole “Stand Your Ground Law” which works out to basically it’s okay to shoot unarmed black teenagers if you’re white or semi-Latino or whatever because they’re, you know, black teenagers like Jordan Davis and Trayvon Martin and the GOP’s all for it.

And how this fruitcake Heritage Foundation “scholar” and bully attacked this progressive non-profit guy who wants to save Medicare and Social Security at the D.C. Grand Hyatt, which Millie called up on her iPad and we all enjoyed whilst stirring and sipping our daiquiris and I know my Razorbabies want to see it so here:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/04/e…

And then Lois (our newest Darlene) mentioned that Oklahoma’s Supreme Court (she’s from Tulsa), which is right next to The Natural State, just rejected two recently-passed anti-abortion laws as unconstitutional, which we cheered and finished off that round of daiquiris and poured another because—

Millie regaled us with the factoid that stupid old bigoted GOPers think they lost the election because of ACORN, which doesn’t even exist anymore, and not because they’re stupid old bigots, and then—

I weighed in with roly-poly old Roger Ailes (an erstwhile social pal) curtailing Karl Rove’s and Dick Morris’s appearances on FOX News because now even Roger’s embarrassed by them, and naturally thought of YOU, my Razorbabies, because I’m wondering how much longer Mookie’s gonna be at FOX or Cumulus Radio or wherever he’s still grasping for media relevance, and what’s gonna happen to the beach home in Destin and stuff when his schtick as “political consultant” tanks.

But mainly we all agreed that we’re deeply concerned now that Gavin’s bailed on Lindsay on Twitter and the poor thing’s Fuck You Money is running out.

Also that a few banana daiquiris go a long way toward easing the pain.

Christmas cheers!

Are you overlooking the obvious? One can buy the artifacts of creativity, but do you understand the "why"? One can end up with the greatest artworks and yet have the most empty life, turn to drink to mask problems, avoid honoring "the stranger" with access to decent and just wages, to what end? Life is not a museum, though in the science and research of climate change, the pollutants that are being held in the upper atmosphere, will make our ecology more of a tomb. And art galleries are not just storage facilities but rather active, learning organizations that are challenged to realize an audience that appreciates human sensibilities, issues and thought from different eras. Are there actions which we can take to craft healthier lifestyles? Better retailing? Movement of goods with services?
