I know the officers involved and i have found them to be good, honest, hard working,Christian men and I do not doubt that their version of events is exactly how it happened. It is a tragedy that a man had to lose his life and these officers have to live with the memory of taking his life over something so trivial as breaking a game law.Pay the fine and go on living is the way it should have gone but he chose another path that did not turn out well for anybody involved.

Tonya, Incidents in the past, like the one I mentioned, have shown us that even complete innocence and compliance can result in death at the hands of over-zealous cops. Obviously, you have not experienced DWB as thousands of your neighbors have.

Nowadays, even in posh areas like Hillcrest, economic status is no protection from police excesses, as evidenced by a couple of highly publicized events in the past year.

You said "You complain when Officers don't do their jobs to your liking." Yes, I have to admit that a dead person is not to my liking; that includes dead cops.

Police are given enormous latitude to be judge, jury, and executioner ... to an extent. But with that huge power comes the responsibility to justify its use and be punished when wrong.

I hope you or your family never have to be confronted with such a tragedy. If that did happen you would want to know that there are some who will not allow such misdeeds to be swept under the carpet.

Step back from the situation and wait the man out. Don't put yourself or the perp in a dangerous situation. If he starts shooting, kill him then.
To the last 3 commenters... I love how you dissect the story safely at home. Its very simple to set behind your computers eating your dumdums oblivious of the situation in which these Officers were doing their jobs. Why is some so quick to lay blame on the very ones they will call when help is needed. If the perpetrator wasn't in the wrong, he would not have fled and he too could be at home enjoying his dumdums. You complain when Officers don't do their jobs to your liking and when they do their jobs with an outcome such as this you again complain yet when they do their jobs for the good with good outcomes nothing is said. Not a "atta boy" a "thank you" nothing. Cynical people really amuse me. Nothing is ever good enough, always has to be an ulterior motive for what is really a simple act of duty.

Suffice it say, Yossarian, Ark Troopers don't get very good combat training. I can imagine it's lacking for game wardens too.

I knew one attorney once, interrogating an officer in witness chair, who asked him directly if he had belonged to the Boy Scouts, was member of a church, etc. Then commented to effect if the officer had any prior training or influence on telling the truth.
Their police academy training includes how to answer questions on the witness stand.

Also for those of you not familiar with mud, it can be slick. Could the trooper have slipped?

Whenever I hear about an execution by police, I remember the case of Joseph Erin Hamley, where an over-excited Trooper murdered an unarmed disabled kid laying on the ground, surrounded by four other cops aiming guns. The cop got punished with 54 days in jail and medical retirement at 40.

The only reason that there was prosecution in that case was the existence of dashboard video. In this current situation, we must rely on what the wildlife officers and the Trooper say happened. Based on previous experience, not an optimal situation for finding the truth.

Something about the actual physical process bothers me. The truck was moving slowly enough through thick mud that the officer was able to approach it on foot. Then the same officer, after being "knocked to the ground" by the truck was able to get the the driver's door but the vehicle somehow drove sideways to hit him again. Such a vehicle could be very useful in parallel parking situations.

"Knocked to the ground by the truck" does not indicate intentional striking by the vehicle, which could be considered "assault" but could be simply the slaloming of the vehicle due to mud. In other words, not a vicious criminal but just a very scared person.

Since the troopers were that close to the perpetrator, they could very well identify him for apprehension later. Also, if he were moving so slowly through the mud, interception at a safer location might have been possible.

The State Police must hire people who are easily frightened and lack prudent imagination. This is not the first of situations with deadly results that could have been avoided by mature adults.
