Alright couldnt be better Ill play along with you. Lets say we tax the top 2 percent at an even 40% of income of all types, I would agree to that proposal at this point. My question to you is then what? At most that would cover around 10% of the yearly deficit this administration has been running. So where does the other 90% come from?

This is what you guys and gals on the left dont get, we could tax the top 2 percent of every dollar they have and still not come close to fixing the enormous hole we have in the budget. I know you probably get sick of hearing it but it is the truth, America does not have a revenue problem we have a spending problem. And just like it is wrong for Republicans to close their eyes and refuse to acknowledge tax revenue needs to go up, its just as wrong for Democrats to pretend that we need only increase taxes on those evil rich people and all our problems will be solved.

Really, uncommonsense, the rich ought to be taxed at 60% on everything over $1 million. That still leaves them enough to buy canned tuna catfood for tuna salad. They have had 11 years of extra cash and done nothing. They should be paying 4 x 11% more (that is 44% more) and get rid of any lower rates on dividends, bonuses and interest. Everyone pays a set rate on ALL their income. You cut cut the tax code to 3 pages (doubled-spaced). Remember it wasn't the IRS that made the horrible tax code but congress critters being bought off by the rich and corporations.

Couldnt be better, I could pull a thousand links showing Pelosi supported raising taxes on those making 1 million and above back in may. Are you denying that Pelosi and house dems supported this plan back in may simply because I linked to a WSJ article? How about you just simply google "Pelosi raise taxes on millionaires" as I did and you can read it from whatever unbiased source you desire.

Gee, the Wall Street Journal as aunbiased source? What planet do you live on?

But if we raise the tax on the rich, think of how many car elevator installers will be put out of work. Oh, the horrors of it.

Quit looking at what they pay and look at what they have left which if they only make $1 million and have to pay 4% more on $750,000, it would mean that they would have to suffer with only keeping $720,000 of that $750,000. That $720,000 would only be 19 times the average $38K an Arkansan makes. I bet even Saline could survive on 18 times the average (note average which includes the Waltons), not the mode which I would expect to be somewhere south of $20,000. This whole argument for the small amount of money involved is showing how stupid the Republican House members are (note the 3 we have). Better yet, tax all income at the same rates. No reason that someone getting a $100 million bonus should pay 15% when Gertrude over at the gas station makes $100 a week and pays a higher percentage.
Sadly, on both sides of the isle today, when the leaders of our nation are given the choice between doing what is right for our nation, and doing what will score the most political points they choose the political points every single time. Just watch Boehner could come back today and say "fine we agree to raise taxes on those making 500k and above" and this still wouldnt be good enough. Obama and Reid both know that going over the cliff is the most beneficial to them, so that is whats going to happen. Doesnt matter how far the Republicans go to try to stop it.

So when Nancy Pelosi pushed this same plan a few months ago it was great idea, yet when Republicans finally agree now its not good enough? Just shows that nothing Republicans propose will be satisfactory to Obama and Reid. They know the public will blame Republicans if we go over the cliff, despite Boehner's repeated attempts offering the so called "balanced approach" President Obama campaigned so hard on. There is far too much political gain to made by the Dems for them to make a deal with Republicans just yet.
Obama made the trillions in Bush tax cuts for the very wealthy his very own. On so many levels we need to establish progressive levels of taxation far beyond just letting a few things expire. Raising income cap on Social Security. Raising cap gain/unearned taxation and perhaps most of all raising inheritance tax levels. Let's tax robots work product and high frequency trading too. All while dramatically streamlining the entire convoluted/impossible tax system.

It should not be enough any longer to lie and pretend you aren't in overwhelming kleptocratic agreement with the bribed and beholden GOP.
