It's interesting if you're paying attention about how much bad shit about Mitt Romney keeps creeping out. Today it came out that he's screwing the journalists who flew on his campaign plane, rode his campaign bus. This deal has been going on for decades but Mitt's the first candidate to try to charge each media person 800 bucks each for a meal!

I think before this pops up again we better study up hard on Mormons. They appear to be the most dishonest people on earth. They didn't say a peep while Mitt lied his ass off for the last 2 years. We know they don't like gays, barely tolerate black people and totally totally worship MONEY. They would be different from the Mafia....how? And and Tony Alamo sleeps tonight in prison..tsk tsk

This last massacre really pointed out how terribly broken America is in all directions. Like Obama promises to slam thru new gun laws....not in 2 years or 10 years or 25...but NOW, we need to take this opportunity of CHANGE to make a whole lot of other changes while we're at it.

This country is experiencing Stage 4 Cancer! All of it coming from the same 1%ers who don't want to pay taxes, don't care if sick folks die, or if there's a single job left in the land and are crying their eyes out tonight because Robert Bork is dead.

We can't wait till January! We can't wait 2 years or 4 years! We can't wait till Hillary or Liz Warren takes office in 2017! WE NEED GIANT CHANGES RIGHT NOW!

PS Deporting bad Americans is OK with me....put Mitt, Newt and Huckabee on the next jet leaving the country....that would be a damn good start to a better America in our lifetime!

sky pilot, the scenario you wrote about not knowing who the shooters were brought back the Virginioa Tech shooting when the first police to arrive were plain clothes police. Now you have one bad guy in civilian clothes and multiple good guys in civilian clothes, and the real cops and state police arriving, some of whom knew some of the plain clothes police. This could have been a real bloodbath and yet some of the nuts want every student to be allowed to carry. If you don't know what is happening, you need to keep out of the action unless you are being attacked.

I will predict right now that Dustin McDaniel will be the next governor of the state of Arkansas. Anyone who thinks Asa Hutchinson could ever win a statewide election is fooling themselves. however, I have no doubt that the Rethugs will turn to him again. He's the best they got, as bad as he is, UNLESS one of the New Guard really shines in the next legislative session.

While possible, the probabilities are really small to begin with and rapidly approach microscopic as each layer is added.
Personally I'd be worrying most about the final step when the stressed out, out of breath cop runs in, but that's probably my bias speaking.

      1. If an armed, uniformed guard is present at a school, the first person killed by someone bent on killing will be the armed, uniformed guard.

2. Locking the doors isn't failsafe. As I understnd it, the recent shooter shot out the glass door.

3. If reinforced doors are installed, the shooter looks for a window.

Some security precautions make sense, of course. But there is no way to make schools, churches, or shopping malls "absolutely secure."

And greater restrictions upon firearms make sense, of course. But there is no way to make schools, churches, or shopping malls "absolutely secure."

We do need to take reasonable precautions; but we also need to acknowledge that there is no such thing as absolute security in this life.

And I was thinking this morning about civilians bearing firearms with concealed carry permits. This is the scenario that ran through my head (as I reflected upon other public shootings within the past year):

1. Malicious shooter opens fire in shopping mall/church/whatever.

2. Civilian with concealed carry firearm shoots and kills malicious shooter. Is an immediate hero.

3. Another civilian with concealed carry firearm races to the scene, sees person in #2 with weapon still in hand, assumes him/her to be a malicious shooter. Shoots and kills him/her. First hero dead. Second "hero" now faces possibility of arrest, indictment, and conviction of negligent homicide.

4. Armed, uniformed security guard dashes upon scene from down the hall and around the corner in time to see person in #3 shoot and kill person in #2, assumes him/her to be a malicious shooter. Shoots and kills him/her. Person in #3 now not in jeapordy of being convicted of negligent homicide.

5. Run this out as far as you like. I know it's simply the figment of my imagination. But does it strike you as having a grain of reality in it? My carrying a firearm is no guarantee of safety--either mine or anyone else's.

IMHO

[Just for the record: I grew up on a farm "surrounded" by firearms. Learned to shoot as a child. Always been comfortable with firearms, both for hunting and for sport/target shooting. Served in military; introduced to some basic military weapons--no real training. Worked part-time as a private security guard to help pay for my higher education. Cautioned by supervisor, "Don't shoot somebody. Hit him with your gun if you need to, but don't shoot him"--or words to that effect.]

[Personal anecdote that put the fear of God in me about firearms: Wife's mother was with us to help with our first child while wife was in hospital delivering second. Mother got up after we'd "gone to bed" and went to porch to bring in items from clothes line. I didn't hear her go out. But I heard the door close and her footsteps down the hall as she walked back past my bedroom to hers. At first sound of door and steps, I thought "intruder." I rolled out of bed, grabbed my gun, and took up a defensive position expecting "intruder" to open my door. I was ready to fire. Fortunately, I refrained from firing through closed door. I came that close to shooting my wife's mother! I still shake when I think about "what could have happened." (And, incidentally, I've never told my wife.)]
