Wait a minute. Have you looked at the cost of good quality food lately? You can fill a lot more empty stomachs with $100 of junk food than you can with $100 of fruits and vegetables. Maybe the answer to lower life expectancies for poor people is to find ways for them to get their hands on more affordable nutritious food and maybe even teaching them how to prepare stuff that they're not used to eating, rather than just throwing money at them and expecting them to figure it out for themselves.

I think she's absolutely right. Why aren't unhealthy people responsible for their own bad habits? If the same restrictions on allowable purchases imposed on WIC recipients were similarly applied to food stamp recipients there would be a lot fewer people checking out of WalMart with cases of soft drinks, frozen pizzas and and ice cream. When I worked at WalMart I could tell which customers were going to use food stamps by the amount of junk they piled onto the check-out counter.
Wow. Does she know much about her home county? Little Debbie Snack cakes are made in two cities in the US. One is in Tennessee. The other is in Gentry, Arkansas, Benton County.

So, any one, "dear people" or not, that buys a Little Debbie Snack cake, is supporting commerce in Arkansas.
