While I have issues with my energy supplier and their politics, I do appreciate those lineworkers who do it in storms! And still some fools out on the roads which puts the first responders at risk. Thanks and props to those who are gonna be doing overtime in this event, union or not.
NVR....your treats sound awesome and I would gladly trade if we were closer.

Blizzard conditions here. Snow so heavy and falling so hard we can no longer see past the rails on the upper deck. Nothing. Total whiteout conditions. Hubby just went out and measured and we have 3+ inches, getting closer to 4. We are about 1000 feet up so we are getting a bit more than my friends downtown. Ice hanging from the roofs of all buildings up here. Oddly enough, the tops of our little solar landscaping lights are peeking out through the snow, lightng the plants, statues and fountains in a very errie fashion. Almost creepy!

I would like to walk up to the pond to check the conditions there and at the cabin, but it is snowing too hard right now to make the treck. Maybe later....

We're still waiting for the turkey to brown, then we will feast on all the traditional dishes. Been so long since I've cooked a holiday meal that I'm a little disorganized and even forgot to put the frozen dough balls out to rise this morning. We'll make do at dinner, though, and have the rolls later for some little turkey sammiches. Everything else seems to be on track. And we're all getting verry huuuungry!

Atlas, I must tell you that if my mom had had her way I could now claim to have eaten camel meat. When I was a kid (10-13) and my family lived in Libya, we would frequent the downtown market in Tripoli which was a very exciting place. Lots of people haggling over the merchandise, exotic music, pungent smells and things the likes of which we'd never seen. There were also lots of open-air meat markets doing business under clouds of flies that swarmed around the severed camel heads hanging above the tables. My mom, being the most adventurous of my parents, was all for trying it only to be met with squeals of disgust from me and my sisters and a definite NO from my dad.
I can, however, claim to have ridden several camels.

MG--I'd gladly trade a little homemade peanut brittle and some Christmas cookies for that cinnamon roll but it is definitely too far away--especially on a snowy day like this! Love the snow picture you posted! Just sleet so far here in LR but the branches are getting heavy with ice. I heard from friends that power is out in Maumelle. Already I can see a the top of a tree came down in my neighbors yard--it was dead already--so maybe they will finally get have to get rid of it.

And yellow dog grandmother says the 3 different cornbreads make the difference: hers, my aunt's, and yellowdogmama's, plus a few homemade biscuit and saltines.

May I highly recommend the Air Hog II Helicopter--fun for all ages as it bounces, whirls, spins, and flies from floor to ceiling. I typically despise these things but have not yet once fussed at my son, even though the helicopter has already been in the tree, on top of the ceiling fan, and nearly knocked over the heirloom decanter. It's just too fun. Ask me again how I feel about it after the blizzard sets in and we've been cooped up together for days.

The dressings in! The dressings in! The dressing's in the oven! Even more important than what I think about Andi Davis, a great pan of dressing is the most worshipful thing on earth! Your Thanksgiving and Christmas lunch-brunch celebration can only be as good as your dressing!

Our family dressing makers have been 6 feet under for over a decade. Ma did the best she could but cooking was never something Ma cared about or did well. When she got sick in 2004 I was forced to step up to bat. In the years since my dressing has improved in baby steps. 3 years ago a friend sent a dressing recipe from Southern Living and finally I was on the right path. Each holiday since I've tweaked the dressing a little closer to perfection. And today I will pull from the old oven 2 pans of damn good dressing. <--------bowing

Our 1997 Christmas puppy is enjoying his 15th Christmas under our roof. He's now totally deaf, mostly blind and is senile, barking at things that aren't there, making the same circular path dozens of times per day, leaving many carpet gifts (see why we don't invite you over.) He has been our most loving dog, but without a close 2nd, the worst dog I've ever known. Think of your worst dog habit-nightmare and we've lived it with this dog....repeatedly. Though he limps and stumbles and falls over out of the blue, his will to be evil is 100% intact.

Probably 14 and a half years ago I was forced to build a Cat Yes-Dog No half door for the kitchen. Christmas dog to this day would love to climb up on our kitchen table and mark it as HIS with a big stream of urine. It was build the door or kill the dog. Every second of his life has been devoted to catching the kitchen half door unlocked. He checks it 50 times each day. He used to have the courtesy to hold up checking the door until I had walked out of the dining room. I'd hear his paw on the cat hole rattling the door to see if it was unlocked. Now that he's blind and deaf he'll check it with me standing next to him. The nerve!

Though he can barely walk, if I don't fasten the gate to the stairs, he'll still manage to pull his old body up 2 flights of stairs just to leave a big steaming pile of you-know-what in one of the upstairs bathrooms, marking his various spots all the way back down the stairs. He will eat all the cat food if he gets in the kitchen and he can smell chocolate a half a block away. He's diminished, but NOT DEAD! Obviously too horrible for Doggy Heaven and even Doggy Hell.

Oh how I wish I could send each of you a little piece of him today! But the death watch will continue into 2013....he and Dick Cheney refuse to die probably because they're so so so evil. Ahhh.....I can smell the dressing! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Nikaniki......wait, that's supposed to be Hanukkah, silly spellchecker, Happy 25th of the month! There...that should cover everyone....

One thing about young kids is that they are up early, so we had breakfast and our gift exchange with my kids, their spouses and the grandkids this morning. We made a quick escape early this afternoon due to the weather and so the grandkids could have naps/rest before going to the other grandparents for their gift exchange later today. The roads weren't bad yet but the rain was slushy and already freezing on the car. I am just glad to be home and warm while the ice starts freezing to everything. We had a family dinner a few nights ago so I'll enjoy a repeat of that later today with some leftovers. I still have lots of homemade Christmas goodies to nibble on but a warm cinnamon roll from mountaingirl's kitchen sounds like a treat! Merry Christmas to the AT bloggers!

awaiting the imminent arrival of the grandtoddler amidst the chaos of last minute clean up and trying to find a new way to f up the Christmas roast. I wish everyone could have such problems. It's not perfect, but it is a miracle that there really is something rather than nothing and that we - all of us - are that something. Merry Christmas humans, all of us, with out imperfections and our f ups. Goodness truly is its own reward, and my wish for everyone would be to know that in the best of ways.

outlier, I'm in agreement with you about worms and raw fish, being an avid catcher of fish in these clear mountain streams of the Ouachitas.

I have a first cousin who lives in San Fran. They moved from Arkansas when she was a child during WW II to the bay area seeking a better life than what existed in these western Arkansas mountains. They stayed. My parents didn't stay----they never could get the mountains and streams out of their system, thank goodness! Jeanette called last night to let me know about the rain, etc. I'm glad she's there and I'm here.
