I agree about all the La Hacienda's being different. I've been going to the Hot Springs location since they opened. Their children were near my kids ages. I watch them grow up and the staff stay mostly the same. Being regulars, La Hacienda offered us a few perks that I admit, we enjoyed. But unlike Mike we now travel from Hot Springs to Benton for La Hacienda. It's far closer to the original that we loved so much. If I order a spicy dish, I get a spicy dish at Benton. At HS I have to remind them several times...spicy. The flavor and quality is better in Benton and the menu has different offerings. We tried Little Rock once and never went back.

The office ordered take-out from here in Dec & all 5 of us were pleased with our lunch specials, however most of us thought the refried beans were too greasy. The guacamole & cheese dip were both quite good. On my 2nd visit I ate there with a friend. She had fajitas & I had the Milanesa, both were spot-on great. Our waiter & other staff made our meal even more enjoyable & the beans were improved. Maybe you can give them another try.

I completely disagree with your review. We have been to this restaurant a handful of times since its opening and have found several items we love. If you like La Hacienda, this is so close to the same dishes that you really cannot tell the difference. The punch is the same. The complementary salsas are the same (for added effect, orders small cheesedip and then pour in the spicy green salsa and mix...very tasty!). The refried beans are made the same as La Hacienda. I haven't compared the menus of these restaurants but I bet they have the same meals on each and Casa Real probably has a few more additions. My personal favorite is the shrimp and chorizo plate served with corn tortillas. The corn tortillas are made in house and by the grandfather of the family. I found this out by talking to one of the wait staff. Speaking of the waitstaff, they are some of the most courteous and prompt of any restaurant in this town. I wish other establishments would follow their cue.
Granted, that picture posted above doesn't look appealing at all. However, I have seen dishes that looked similar to that served in other very popular Mexican places (senior tequila). I'm not even going to mention some of the food served at some of the Indian restaurants around here....might look disgusting but taste phenomenal.
So, I would say to give them another chance before slamming them. Try a different dish that may be more to your liking.

I always loved the Cantrell location of La Hacienda and even enjoyed the food at the WLR location when they first opened. After several years they had a different staff or it changed hands and I never thought it was as good as before-except for the red salsa mentioned above (not the hot version). I hadn't been back for awhile when I saw that they had closed and were reopening as La Casa Real in the Marketplace. I've been meaning to give it a try but after reading this review, I think I will pass. Who needs another mediocre Mexican restaurant meal when there are so many other good options out there?

I've always been a fan of La Hacienda, from way back when the only location was in Hot Springs. Still, there are definite differences between locations -- even Benton, which is the best outside of the original, doesn't hold a candle to the Hot Springs location in terms of quality.

I don't know how the beans were at this place, but La Hacienda makes my all-time favorite refried beans.
