I wish for the demise of the Republican Party not so I can brag that my side won, but because that party has turned toxic and is more dangerous to our future than any towel-head lying in the hot sand holding a Russian made weapon today.

I'm a strong Liberal but not much of a Democrat. Washington was right when he begged our founding politicians NOT to divide up into opposing political parties. Enough of 18th century thinking! Kill the GOP, defund the Democrats and our country's ability to wage endless war. No filibusters! No 6 month or 1 year legislation. Let 51% be the rule of the land. No assault weapons! No multi-round clips! More strict gun control laws. No tax breaks for mega-corporations. Require Congress to work 50 weeks per year. Limit campaign spending to the 91 million each in public campaign financing. And if we must have political parties, grow a 2nd major party out of the Occupy Movement.

Looking at what's being said on C-Span I don't believe the House will pass this poor legislation passed by the Senate in the middle of the night. Could be that Obama & Biden knew this and rolled the dice knowing failure will splatter on the House Republicans. Time will tell. Remember in my lifetime we all needed a TV antenna on our houses and pants stretchers in the laundry room......there's pure proof that we can change if we want to.

The House is balking at approving the agreement even though the terms of the current Congress end at midnight tomorrow, after the stock market has taken a nosedive and everyone's 401K is back to where it was when President Obama started the recovery from the Bush 2 disaster.

If they do not approve an agreement, then the higher tax rates are in for everyone and milk is $8 a gallon and probably S&P will downgrade the US again. Sooner or later, when Tea Party voters are going to discover that their credit card interest rates and the ARM have both gone up, they will realioze that there is a party that isn't playing with 50% of a workable brain among them. The House said they didn't want to accept the Senate bill. Well, a$$holes, you had a chance to vote on a Boehrner's Plan "B" and couldn't even agree to vote. You have had 18 months to prepare for today so don't start getting huffy that someone else had to do you job. The president is right-you are a bunch of spoiled kids who certainly deserve to lose your government paid healthcare and pensions and based on the number of days you work, about 90% of your pay.

Are there any SANE Repubklicans anywhere? Are you so used to licking the Koch brother's boots to shine them, that you don't realize that the Koch's didn't vote for you, can't vote for you, and aren't going to be hurt by your lack of action but your next door neighbor is.

Remember, thanks to you sucking up to the NRA, everyone had a gun down here and some have 30+ magazines. I would suggest that you hide out at a bar in Georgetown if you can't reach an agreement! Not that I hope anyone would be hurt but you are putting a lot of pain on a lot of people who are already under stress. Increasing the stress has problems but thanks to your defunding agencies, the help they need is no longer there.

Maybe you can hide out at Saline's place since he is so in love with the philosophy of screwing everyone, you will be right at home.

This is a crap deal. O & Biden simply caved in for the sake of compromise. It postpones the hard issues and will be a bone of contention still. O meanwhile has lost his leverage, he will able to get nothing from the repugs for the remainder of his term. It also will embolden the repug right and dishearten the progressives. Read, the dems will stay home and the repugs will take the mid-terms. O has become the Woodrow Wilson of our time; cave in for the sake of compromise while setting the table for a much larger conflict down the road; talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

The GOP is the same animal on economics, DBI. It has always been the party of the rich man, however, it is a different animal on social issues than it once was. After all, it was the party that freed the slaves, and passed the 13th Amendment to the Constitution against overwhelming Democratic opposition. It also once championed personal freedom. It became Neanderthalic on social issues with Richard Nixon's so-called Southern Strategy aimed at converting Southern Dixiecrats into Republicans. Just look at a voting map and you can see how successful it was.

I'm sitting here in my robe wondering why the House would cast sane votes today? After years of insanity producing bills no one wants to support and casting a host of insane votes for such bills.....why....today of all days would we be sitting on the edge of our computer chairs expecting a sane vote on this not very good compromise bill?

We'll soon see how sane our 4 Republican-Tea Party members of the House will vote. I should say 3 Republican-Tea Party members because Mike Ross is a party unto himself and he'll vote for whatever is best for Mike Ross for we know he believes in government of Mike Ross, by Mike Ross, for Mike Ross. Wonder what he made since US-America-God Drugs was bought up by a larger fish?

I hate to see people hurt, but as far as I can tell my family will not be hurt much if we go over the fiscal cliff. A little higher taxes, expensive milk I can do without. My interest in going over the cliff is my belief that the US government needs a heavy shock treatment in order to do better in the future. The GOP wrote the sequester and all the bad stuff that will come from it......let them have it and hopefully the pain it causes will help with the demise of a toxic political party.

By accident while doing other kinds of historical research I've been shocked to see that the Republican Party has been the same animal since Lincoln's time. The bad ideas they promote today they promoted over a hundred years ago. Their foot dragging obstructionism has been with them always. Except for the lack of bushy sideburns and beards, today's Republican in Congress is the same animal found back in 1932, 1892, 1872. So expecting them to change is ridiculous.

At birth a Dachshund puppy is destined to act like a Dachshund. From the start of their political career a Republican is destined to act like a Republican. Retraining isn't an option. Only the annihilation of the Republican Party shall set us free.

So ending the the "payroll tax holiday" which will raise taxes on over 160 million poor and middle income Americans is not worth a mention? At nearly 20 bucks a paycheck that's a thousand bucks a year! NO, Obama and Pryor, I don't got no milk.

Hope you all get a thank you note from the administration's propaganda office.

There is NO left in this country. Neoliberal Democrats killed it. And they do it by allowing the republicans, rather than their own to define them at each and every turn (and being bribed and beholden in this most corrupt political finance system).

Why are we still talking about this as "raising taxes" on anybody? What is being done is "ending tax breaks" on a few. I can't decide which is worse: the hypocrisy of Republicans who now demand that America's government do only what it can pay for without borrowing, even though they scheduled payment for the Bush tax cuts to begin only at the end of 2010 and then defaulted altogether on that debt; or the dumbness of Democrats in letting them get away with it by going along with talk about "tax increases." Why are we talking about "austerity," saying that government ought to do what families have to do when they owe too much, while it is the Republicans who haven't asked anybody for austerity to pay-as-you-go for wars, tax-reductions, favoritism for "job creators," or anything else since George W. Bush was inaugurated twelve years ago?

      I'll just re-post this here.

The House critters are center stage now. The deal passed the Senate with 8 or 9 no votes. Socialist Bernie Sanders of VT was a yes. SS and Medicare were not touched. Unemployment insurance will be extended a year. Millionaire's and billionaire's taxes are going up.

And best of all, the 112th do-nothing Congress is almost over!

And I'll add in case Timmy and his fellow travelers are reading this: Members of the constituency for whom you are crying a river have been known to spend $1200 on bikini waxes and $10,000 on a goddamn purse. So stop with the alligator tears! A perfectly good Coach bag can be had for $200 which is still more than a lot of Arkansans have to get by on for a week. That special bikini wax will grow out in a week or so. Too bad y'all won't be able to grow brains AND hearts in that same time frame.
