SkyPilot

Elwood: It isn't that "Skypilot thinks . . . ." It is that Sky wondered what others thought. Posters seemed to suggest that if one is called to the ministry, that is a 100% deal for an entire lifetime.

There isn't time or space for a full discussion, but here are some of the points:

The Old Testament prophets were not "full-time professional holy men." They did not come from the priestly tribe (Levi). They were "secular" men who were called to a specific temporary ministerial task.

The Apostle Paul was not a "professional holy man." He supported himself by making tents.

Among several denominations today there are multitudes of bi-vocational ministers who work in secular jobs to support their families so they can serve churches who can't afford to pay them a living salary. They don't sell insurance "on the side"; they sell insurance to make a living so they can serve an economically depressed church.

Many missionaries solicit their own financial suport so they can perform their ministries. But I'm digressing from "full time" or "part time" or "permanent" or "temporary," which was the original question, to the method of financial support.

I have known men who were called to ministry, educated for it, practiced it, and then simply reached a point that no church or other church-related agency or institution would "hire" them. They turned to secular work to keep from starving. And I'm not talking about someone who had some scandal or other black mark against him; someone with a spotless record who found himself in a pool of more desirable candidates for a given position.

So I was just curious about the theological views of those who were hammering Huckabee for his "leaving the ministry."

I have my own private views and opinions, but I'm not here to sell them. I have not made any remarks about Hucakabee's change of vocations--and I don't intend to. I'm not responsible for Hucakabee. And Huckabee isn't responsible to me. If God can't take care of Huckabee the way He wants to, there's no point in my trying to get involved!

IMHO

Mike Hucklebee was relieved of his duties by God today. At a just-completed press conference, God said: "Hucklebee's contract was up and he just didn't deliver enough win ... ning comments. Most of his were just downright hateful or money inspired. It's time to move on with a true believer."

I guess they are lucky that the Old Testament God hasn't thrown a few thunderbolts/floods, etc their way. Afterall, they have used God's name for teh reason that they went into preaching.

Lord knows, (pun intended) that we hope to change and grow and develop personally as well as spiritually. Why wouldn't that entail a corresponding change in one's call?

Either Coleman lied about being called when he worked as a minister or he has ignored God's call and decided he likes the cash of being an executive or "personality". Same with these other "former ministers" They either lied about the call or have decided to tell God to shove off. You are called or not called and these people seems to have it as just another career change and next week they will be an over-th-road truck drivers.

I feel sorry for curtis. He has, at best, a superficial grasp on anything he espouses, but thinks he has gone to the core of the problem. Making him, in his minds eye, a serious candidate. One who has a better grasp on the issues facing the state. He should stay home, look in the mirror and worship himself, where we don't have to be bothered.
