This just makes me sad. How hard is it for local high schools to administer the GED? Will the candidates have to travel to a central location for testing?

Why did this change happen under everyone's radar (even Max's)? Who made the decision?

Education is cheaper and more beneficial than incarceration. So why do we keep building more jails and prisons--which we can't afford to furnish and staff--instead of focusing on schools and children?

"Plenty of prisons,'' said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.
"And the Union workhouses?'' demanded Scrooge. ``Are they still in operation?''
"They are. Still,'' returned the gentleman, `` I wish I could say they were not.''
"The Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then?'' said Scrooge.
"Both very busy, sir.''
Goddamnit, we (city, county) can see fit, on one hand, to supply public funds for private property for rich people. But we (state) can't pay a few bucks for some poor sap who would be lucky to get hired on, if only as a janitor, if he only had his GED?

Let me tell you one thing: as one who works in IT, there is no need for this "technology park." It will, no doubt, turn into a prime real estate investment, and nothing more. AR does not have the talent, plain and simple, nor does it provide the salaries, cultural and/or educational opportunities to attract out-of-staters with experience in the field.

Juxtaposing these two things (GED and tech park) really pisses me off.

Either you invest in training and educating your future citizens or you only uneducated citizens. (We are reaping 2 or 3 decades of not being willing to educate the future Americans)

Funny how the current crop seems to believe they earned and paid for their own education.

What kind of job did you have at 5 to save up to be able to go to first grade and learn to read?

What?

Someone else before you paid to build a school and paid to educate the teachers in that school!

Also explain how you paid for your own doctor and hospital bills when you were born. I guess a fetus WAS a person back then and had actually had a job and saved up to be able to afford being born.
