I hosted some Jaspanese visitors from our Japanese affilicate (we were both owned by a German company) and I had him for the entire week-end. On Saturday, we stayed locally in our town of 800 for the ribbon-cutting on the local library addition that my wife was involved with, then a county fair where he shot 3 rolls of film of an oxen pull and then to a local playhouse for Big River where I spent the eveniong watching him react (he knew the story).

Sunday, NYC with a drive all the way down to the battery, the Staten Island Ferry by the Statue of Liberty, a separate trip out to the statue that we had hoped to avoid with the Ferry, Rockefeller Center and then while trying to get to a Mexican Restauranr on 8th ave we got caught in a Tienamen Square protest by the Chinese Embassy so back out and more rolls of film. We were looking for a place to eat and found a parking spot on the street and took it and found ourselves in front of an Irish restaurant where all the waitresses had red hair and sounded like they got off the boat that afternoon and he enjoyed Irish brews. The following week, sans wife, we went to a manufacturing operations conference south of Mexico City where he discovered Corona beer.

I do miss that area some days. Surgery was not as involved as they thought it might be. No tendon tear, just frayed by the spur under it so hopefully, things will move fast. Already one PT and last pain pill was 24 hours ago.

Cbb...we are in NYC, but I am looking forward to getting back to the mountain and more reasonable hours. We just walked on the door from dinner, then drinks with our New York friends (note the time!). Sleep is a distant memory for me in this "city that never sleeps". I continually tell the Brits that we Do Not live this way at home. Not sure they are getting a realistic view of American life. But they love it here so far. Doing lots of touristy stuff first time visitors like our guests want to do, but that's ok. The view from the Empire State Bld never gets old .
Union rules

A dedicated Teamsters Union member attended a convention in Las Vegas and decided to check out the local brothels. At the first one, he asked the Madam, "Is this a union house?"

"No," she replied, "it isn't."

"Well, if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?"

"The house gets $80 and the girls get $20," she answered.

Offended at such unfair dealings, the union man stomped off down the street in search of a more equitable, hopefully unionized shop. His search continued until finally he reached a brothel where the Madam responded,

"Yes! We're a union house and we observe union rules."

The man asked, "And, if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?"

"The girls get $80 and the house gets $20."

"That's more like it!" the union man said. He handed the Madam $100, looked around the room and spotted a stunningly attractive 20ish green-eyed blonde.

"I'd like to be with HER," he said.

"I'm sure you would, sir," said the Madam. She gestured to a woman in the corner, "but Ethel here has 47 years seniority and according to union rules, she's next."

The good news is that with Hobby Lobby I found a local source of mat boards that is less expensive. So Hobby Lobby can continue their crusade and I get to support a small, locally owned business. Thanks Hobby Lobby!
Will there be TWO open homos in the U.S. Senate? (Larry Craig-R still in closet)

"Former Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), who just left the House of Representatives Thursday after 32 years, said Friday that he has told Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick (D) that he would like an interim appointment to fill the Senate seat that would open if Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) is confirmed as secretary of state.

"A few weeks ago, I said I wasn't interested. It was kind of like, you're about to graduate and they said, you've got to go to summer school. But that [fiscal cliff] deal now means that February, March, and April are going to be among the most important months in American financial history," he said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

"Yes, in fact, I'm not going to be coy, it's not anything I've ever been good at. I've told the governor that I would now like, frankly, to be a part of that. It's only a three-month period, I wouldn't want to do anything more, but to be honest, it's a little arrogant."

Said Frank, "Coach, put me in."
I remember the year we took the kids to the last dress rehearsal of "Shepherd iof the Hills" and they had gone through multiple leads that year because the actors kept forgetting to duck the blows in the fight scene.

He blamed poor PP attendance on tourism being down. Not the whole story, I think. The show had a real hokey, threadbare appearance. It may have been a thrill to watch back in the day, but members of large megachurches are used to a slicker product. Also the Foundation refused to use the set for anything else but the play. Looks like this may change.

Turn about is only fair....'til Jesus comes back'

Jesus saved the life of one Randal Christy (never mind the name similarities, there's no blood kin) and yesterday Randall saves Jesus. Really, he did.

"EUREKA SPRINGS — The Great Passion Play will be held on Magnetic Mountain this year just as it has every year since 1968, said Randall Christy, who spearheaded a frantic fundraising drive to save it.

Christy, president of The Gospel Station Network of Ada, Okla., raised $75,000 in 10 days to pay interest due on three loans at Cornerstone Bank in Eureka Springs. The bank was scheduled to take possession of the play property on Jan. 1 through a deed in lieu of foreclosure.
.....
On Thursday, Christy said the lights will remain on the statue “’til Jesus comes back.”

At a news conference and public announcement Thursday at the Passion Play’s amphitheater, Christy said he plans to raise $6 million in the next year for the play. Some of that money will come through operating the play more efficiently, he said. The play owes $2.53 million to Cornerstone Bank, Christy has said.

“I believe God wants us to make some money because he knows what we’re going to do with it - put it back in here,” Christy said.

http://www.nwaonline.com/news/2013/jan/04/…
(paywall)

Meanwhile, Christ(y)'s followers over in Carroll County says Jesus needs good bidness plans...

"The local Chamber of Commerce and CAPC are on board as well," he added.

The marketing plan includes partnering with several Eureka lodging facilities and other businesses to promote the Passion Play with an arrangement that would allow vendors to buy ticket packages at a reduced rate but be able to resell them at enough of an increased rate to make a profit of their own.

"We will co-promote those businesses as well through our radio network," Christy said. Although Christy said it was impossible to know how many listeners his stations average -- since many are frequented by online listeners, he noted -- he said the Gospel Station Network reaches "millions of people" in seven states. Additionally, their stations are available through apps for iPhone and Android.
....
It is also imperative, [Bill] Smith said, to have "sufficient, verified financial projections in place" to ensure the Play's success and longevity for the 2013 season's total operating costs, debt service, needed improvements, expansion, marketing, animals and payroll.

"Going forward, the management team must develop a marketing plan to capitalize on the property's potential to attract a 21st century audience," Smith added.
....
http://www.lovelycitizen.com/story/1928009…

Who knows. Perhaps the planets will align to favor Jesus and Christy. There's an app for that.
