Maybe you think an ocean liner can turn on a dime, but the rest of us know better.

In the last few years we've been battered by the effects of climate change and there's not much we can do about it. All the money in LR couldn't keep thousands of people from losing electrical power for days and days.

We're pretty much powerless when a car comes speeding towards us from the other lane. Some of us are walking around with undetected cancers or a heart that's fixing to pop. We can't do a damn thing to stop the unexpected from happening to us. Ask old dead runner, Jim Fixx.

But a lot of what we're suffering from today....a lot of what's making our lives miserable are purely man-made. Why on earth in 2013, 236 years after we declared our independence from Britain must we suffer from the effects of gerrymandering? Why give the winners of any election such unrestrained power to FK things up? I'd say the same things if it was 1960 and the Democrats were solidly in power.

How you vote should absolutely matter. From where you vote shouldn't. Black folks have suffered from the effects of gerrymandering most of all and now us white folks are getting a big taste of what happens when the party in power can draw districts shaped like they were drawn using a Spriograph to empower the powerful and keep everyone else down.

My interest in politics isn't about what the government can do for me or my family. We're scraping by as we always have, but out my windows I see people stuck behind the 8 ball, the very people Republicans would dump in the ocean if they could. The very people that gerrymandering ropes off from any power at all. That's not Christian, that's not American, it's the seeds of our own destruction.

People a lot smarter than I am must cure the evils of gerrymandering once and for all by redrawing the lines fairly without regard to political parties, removing one thing that spawned the Tom DeLays of Congress, removing one thing that screws up our politics and makes our future just more years of a Whack-a-Mole existence. We have enough problems with natural disasters, last thing we need is to suffer from those made intentionally by man.

PS...Another quick fix that would return joy to American lives would be for the US to declare bankruptcy, wipe out all deficits so we can start over. The idea isn't so crazy if you consider that Great Britain never paid the US back for war goodies we sent them in WWI. They finally paid us back in 2006 for war goodies we sent them in WWII. Nixon forgave the USSR WWII debt to us while in office. Germany paid off it's WWI, I say WWI debt in October, 2010. It would appear the undead Cheney was right when he said deficits don't matter. We don't have to hang ourselves with man-made laws or gerrymandering!

It would be interesting to see how many actually received support from local voters (the district they were running in)vs support from parties, political PACs, and support from so-called "educational" Koch-type PACs (millionaire investors buying political whores). We know that Cotton couldn't win without whoring. Crawford couldn't win if he depended only on rodeo clownzs to vote for him, and of course, Griffin, is certainly subserviant to money from the rich in this state as welll as convicted and unconvicted felopns who recognize a fellow-traveler. Womack, I don't know but since he is pushing for an internet sales tax against the rest of humanity, he must be a Wallyworld whore.

This largely due to Democrat's consistent inability to organize. Herding cats may be humorous analogy but the outcomes are rather stark.

Texas could be the first of the dominoes to fall when the Hispanic vote reaches flood wave heights. Watched a special on San Antonio recently and most of the city's admin is Hispanic and Democratic. I realize DeLay and Company worked hard to gerrymand them into a minority status in many districts but that only holds for a limited time. The wave grows.

Conservatives have always hated democracy. The thought of the unwashed rabble governing themselves is something they just can't stomach.

The House is controlled by a group of wealthy white men, representing a minority of the votes, who owe their seats solely to gerrymandering and vote tampering -- not to the principles this republic was founded upon.

When they say "constitution," I hold onto my wallet. When they say "rights," I dodge behind something bullet-proof. When they say "the people," I wonder who in the hell they are talking about.
