Mountaingirl, my wife and I have a friend from Jay, Oklahoma, who is receiving medical care right now in a British hospital after taking seriously ill while visiting his daughter, who lives there, in early November. He has been in the hospital ever since, is receiving excellent care, according to the daughter, loves his doctors and nurses, and is hoping for full recovery although he has several surgeries ahead of him. What has it cost him? Only what his American Medicare and private supplement policy agree to pay. The British never asked him about payment when they took him in, needing care. Do you think that would have happened in the good old U.S. of A.? This civilized attitude is why I have always loved the British.

I'll be glad when the U.S. Marshall's museum is completed then Ft. Baptist will have a few other things to do than run sex stings. I'm assuming there's not much of an unsolved cases backlog which requires their time and attention. Back in the 90s they were putting plain-clothed detectives in public restrooms to make arrests for perversion. I suppose they still do.

"Former City Director Arrested on Sexual Solicitation Charge

A former Fort Smith city director was arrested after he allegedly solicited an undercover officer for sex.

Alaric “Rick” Parrish, 60, responded to an ad for prostitution posted on a website called Backpage.com and met an undercover detective at a Fort Smith hotel Friday afternoon (Jan. 4), according to a police report.

The offense report states Parrish called the phone number on the ad just before 3 p.m. and arranged a meeting. Once inside the hotel room Parrish and the undercover officer discussed various sexual acts and the use of “sex toys,” according to the report.
After Parrish placed $150 on the table and started to take off his shoes, police officers came into the room and arrested him, the report states.

He was booked into the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center and later released on a $1,500 bond, a jail deputy said.

Parrish served as a city director until 2008, after 12 years.
“I’m just terribly ashamed and embarrassed,” Parrish told 5NEWS Monday. He said he did not wish to speak on camera, but stressed that he was sorry and that an incident like that had never happened before.
I notice there's never any mention of billings, deductible or co-pays. I have a dear English friend who's been able to stay self-employed for many years due to the British system of healthcare.
We've had United States National Health Care Act first introduced in Congress since 2003. It would accomplish the very same thing. It's been brought up for a vote ever year since.
Saturday afternoon while my hubby was giving the British hubby a personal tour of Yankee’s Stadium and facilities, the British wife and I went shopping. It was a great time for a discussion, so I asked if we could talk about the British health care system. I told her all I knew was what I had read, but it was hard to form an opinion because there were so many conflicting reports.

This is a condensed version of that conversation. Obviously she speaks the Queen’s English much better than I do, but that won’t be reflected here. She is not a political person and defines herself as a 40 year old, working middle class wife and mother of two.

ME: So, hypothetically, let’s say you got sick. What would you do.

NICKY: I would go to the medical facility and see a doctor.

ME: Is that where you see your family doctor?

NICKY: I don’t have a “family doctor”. The medical facility has all of my records and I see an available doctor on staff who has access to my records. I am treated or receive medication or if I were really sick I would be sent to hospital.

ME: What do you pay for this visit?

NICKY: (looking at me skeptically) We pay nothing for the visit. An amount is withheld from each paycheck of all working people in Britain to cover our healthcare. This covers healthcare for all citizens.

ME: Who pays the doctors? Who owns the medical facility?

NICKY: The government owns the medical facilities and the government pays the doctors, quite well I should add.

ME: What about the poor people who don’t have a job and can’t pay into the system? What sort of healthcare do they receive?

NICKY: Everyone receives the exact same care, regardless of whether they pay into the system. Everyone is treated the same.

ME: What about the really rich people? Here, the really rich would never accept the same medical care as the really poor, regardless of whether or not it was exactly the same.

NICKY: We have that too. But the wealthy always have the option to buy their own doctor or care. But they still have the same free care that I have.

ME: What’s the downside? What’s the worst thing you can think of about this system? Your biggest complaint?

NICKY: (thinking for a while before answering) Well, one time I had to wait 30 minutes before I could see a doctor. I have a neighbor who had to wait an hour. But, that’s about it. We do have a lot of abuse within the system because it is so easy to see a doctor, people come into the country with fake documents just to get treatment.

I thought about a 30 minute wait being the only downside she could think of. Then I thought about all of the arguments we have had here and elsewhere over the years about our current system, the proposed single-payer system, The Affordable Healthcare Act, Medicare, Medicare, etc. I wondered just how many people here would say the worst thing about their own healthcare is that they had to wait 30 minutes to see a doctor?

I suppose it would resemble the profile of Springdalians who sent Jim Holt there for several terms as a rep then a state senator, not to mention Charlie Fuqua representing Spdle a term or two. I reluctantly admit that so far Jon Woods being Spdle's senator raises the threshold a notch.
