We all sign a non-compete paper when hired so that was unnecessary. The second issue is that nothing is really secret just an example of a paranoid doctor (typical) and the belief that everything is better with a pocketful of state funds. State employees work everyday to save money and look for ways to cut spending...and then "there she blows." It is disheartening. Rahn deserves a vote of no confidence and he needs to pack up as well- except I am afraid of what that will cost! Sad for the state.

It shows for 2011 her salary was $258,305 and then in 2012 it shows $312,120. That's a 20% pay raise! I think just about everyone at UAMS had their salary frozen at that time because of the economy and state wage freezes when Rahn and the board agreed to up her pay.

This just does not pass the smell test. On several counts.

If you owned a company and an employee took off with this cushy of a farewell, and no one would come up with a story that made sense, what would you do?

I would bring in her superiors and anyone connected till I got a story that made sense.

A $300,000 job tends to be a little time consuming, thus nights and weekends would be common and expected.

YET!

She has time to attend law school for a degree?

Maybe my friends and frat bros that did law school were not the sharpest bunch but they were pretty well tied up (timewise) during law school.

Running off to take another job but getting a full year pay!!! So that we can call if we have a question? What the Heck?

Being EXTREMELY vague about were she is leaving to go work? That in itself would make one sit up and take note.

This fails the smell test and strongly implies someone that is staying is trying to get this woman to disappear.

If she is being paid $300,000+ for part time consulting work, she can afford to pay for her own damned insurance. She is to make every reasonable effort to secure said benefits from new job as quickly as possible. No set time or amount.
She is also expected to abide by any confidentiality agreements to which UAMS is a party.
I'm confused at where good public servant Rahn started the negotiations for this deal. Presumably, there is less value in simply being available to answer questions while working at another job versus being an on-site employee. Did the bidding simply start at her old salary? I would fully understand some amount of payment if they expect to use her knowledge over the year, but at the old full salary? And if this position and/or knowledge is so important, why the heck would you not have a backup plan for this person's departure?

I have no doubt that this has something to do with the UAMS - St. Vincent Peter Banko alignment/merger/affiliation or whatever BS they want to call it. She must be getting paid to assist in the facilitation of whatever transaction will be proposed. Just remember: the combination of an inefficient university hospital and a fun with numbers for their financial performance Catholic hospital does not equal an affiliation that is good for the state of Arkansas. I see no way that St. Vincent Peter Banko would be able to ever withstand public scrutiny of their business dealings.
