I hope that the new director will work to make the process more open. There is absolutely no reason that a complaint against a judge must be handled in the absolute secrecy that it is. The people have a right to know what their judges do. Sure, you are going to get frivolous complaints, but that should not be a justification for secrecy. If they are frivolous, it will be revealed in the subsequent investigation, and the judge will be absolved. That's America's justice system. Judges should not be above it.

It would appear David Sachar's elevation to the Executive Director's position was a "done deal" from the time David Stewart got selected as Executive Director (after Jim Badami retired) and Stewart then hired Sachar as the Deputy Executive Director.

When Stewart was selected, the Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission at least went through the "motions" of advertising the position and taking applications.

None of that happened this time around. We just get the announcement, which Sachar obviously produced, that says he was selected. I guess the Commission decided to just completely skip the "sham" hiring process this time around.

Most of the active judges seemed to have some degree of respect for David Stewart since he had been a District Court Judge prior to being selected Executive Director. Sachar probably won't garner that same amount of respect, based upon the fact he has never served in a judicial capacity and some judges simply perceived him to be Stewart's "attack dog."

It will be interesting to see who Sachar hires to fill his old position, and whether Sachar acts more like Badami or Stewart as Executive Director.
