We went to Eat My Catfish in Benton on Saturday. We were planning on going to the Trotline, but it isn't open until the evening. We hopped on the internet and found this one instead.

It was really good. Catfish was great, fries were great, hushpuppies were really nice (which is rare) and the fried pies were excellent. Truly solid all the way around. We'll be going back.

Pancho's Villa in West Memphis turns 60 this year. Its cheese dip is considered a classic and is one of two Arkansas cheese dips with widespread grocery distribution (Stoby's being the other one). For those of you who haven't made the pilgrimage to the old restaurant on Highway 70 east of downtown, did you know that Pancho's serves its cheese dip at room temperature or less? So far, it's been the only Arkansas cheese dip I've had that's not traditionally served warm.

HUGE love for the pastries from Mylo Coffee Co. This morning my husband and I tried three kinds of croissants... butter, cheddar, and chocolate...and the fabulous kouign amman. The croissants were absolutely incredible, but the delicious, buttery, star of the show was the kouign amman. It got better with every bite.

Stephanos and crew are richly deserving of all the praise that is sure to be heaped upon them in the coming months. Little Rock is so lucky they are here. Let's hope they find the perfect storefront soon!

Tying back to the healthy options thread - Mr. Mordy and I went to Krazy Mike's last night, and both had their grilled options. I had the shrimp skewer and he had the combo catfish and shrimp. In my experience, the grilled items in a "fry heavy" place are an afterthought, but at Krazy Mike's we really didn't miss the deep fried goodness.

My shrimp, while small, were well cooked, with a bit of a sweet/spicy glaze on them, and came with a surprisingly good side of sauteed veggies - broccoli, squash, carrots, onions, peppers and mushrooms, as well as a side of rice. Mr. Mordy's catfish was fresh tasting and perfectly cooked. He did get a couple of hushpuppies on his plate. Each meal was just under $14.

I don't know why it had been so long so we had been there, but we agreed that we wouldn't take so long to come back.

We also ate at Guadalajara in NLR, which is always a treat. We get the bistek usually. Very cheap and very good.

Oaklawn is BACK this weekend. 50-cent Reubens on Friday (so hurry up if you want one).

My personal favorite Oaklawn delicacy is the Oyster Bar -- fat, fresh oysters served ice cold. Delicious! Don't like the raw stuff? Well, I'm sorry for you, but you can also get jumbo shrimp and an assortment of fried goodies, too.
