It was really good. Catfish was great, fries were great, hushpuppies were really nice (which is rare) and the fried pies were excellent. Truly solid all the way around. We'll be going back.

My shrimp, while small, were well cooked, with a bit of a sweet/spicy glaze on them, and came with a surprisingly good side of sauteed veggies - broccoli, squash, carrots, onions, peppers and mushrooms, as well as a side of rice. Mr. Mordy's catfish was fresh tasting and perfectly cooked. He did get a couple of hushpuppies on his plate. Each meal was just under $14.

I don't know why it had been so long so we had been there, but we agreed that we wouldn't take so long to come back.

We also ate at Guadalajara in NLR, which is always a treat. We get the bistek usually. Very cheap and very good.

My personal favorite Oaklawn delicacy is the Oyster Bar -- fat, fresh oysters served ice cold. Delicious! Don't like the raw stuff? Well, I'm sorry for you, but you can also get jumbo shrimp and an assortment of fried goodies, too.
