Drew, I will apologize for including you in my comment to NB. Obviously he/she decided to make you a partner in admonishing the rest of us for our conversations when, in fact, you didn't share the same attitude.
I'll never understand why some people come here on an open line only to be snarky and complain about the topics being discussed. Still, my advice remains the same to those with such complaints.....don't like it, don't stay.

"Harrison schools see rash of threats
By Bill Bowden
Posted: January 13, 2013

There have been eight bomb threats at Harrison public schools since Nov. 6.

Superintendent Melinda Moss considers that an epidemic.

“At this point, you’d think we’d be getting desensitized to it,” she said. “But that is not the case. [The Police and Fire departments] have responded quickly and thoroughly toall of these. We’re always going to err on the side of safety where our students are concerned.”

No bombs have been found, but each threat disrupted school for about four hours, Moss said. That’s how long it takes for police to search the buildings and declare them to be safe.

Four students have been arrested in the threats, three boys and a girl, said Sam Martin, an assistant policechief in Harrison. All of those arrested were youths.
....
According to Arkansas Code Annotated 5-71-210(b)(1)(B)(ii), communicating a bomb threat at a school is a Class D felony, which carries a penalty of up to six years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Two of the bomb threats occurred at the high school, one at the middle school and five at the junior high school.

Moss said a disruption of school for four hours translates to a loss of about $15,000 in instruction time at the junior high or high school and about $10,000 at the middle school, which has fewer students.
I haven't seen it but I'm agin it. That's a way-too-complicated title for a comedy. Besides, I thought that I'd discovered Jennifer Lawrence when she was in "Winter's Bone", a very good movie that couda been about some of my relatives. I thought she was real, you know, a true artist. But, all of a sudden, she's puttin' on airs, how, can I say it?. Successful. Now, she's showin' up everywhere. She's let me down and I hope she hears about it too. She's probably makin' lots of money. What does she think she is? An actress? I hate it when this happens to me.

" In 1999, Chinese consumers bought 1.2 million cars. That number had increased 600% by 2006, when 7.2 million cars were sold."
China is currently constructing the equivalent of two, 500 megawatt, coal-fired power plants per week.
In addition, if China’s carbon usage keeps pace with its economic growth, the country’s carbon dioxide emissions will reach 8 gigatons a year by 2030, which is equal to the entire world’s CO2 production today.
Why is this of interest in Arkansas? Air pollution and its effects don't stop at a country's borders.

In somewhat compliance with the topic of the night. Downpours, thunder, lightning, and short power outages here ... and more extreme weather to come in the next years.

A federal committee has published a draft of the nation's third climate assessment report, a comprehensive analysis of the latest and best peer-reviewed science on the extent and impacts of global warming on the United States. The first report (2000) was suppressed by the Bush administration. The second report (2009) received lukewarm interest by the Obama administration.
----
"Summers are longer and hotter, and periods of extreme heat last longer than any living American has ever experienced. Winters are generally shorter and warmer. Rain comes in heavier downpours, though in many regions there are longer dry spells in between."
You can download a copy of the Draft Climate assessment here:
Deniers are already wailing about the report. If the global climate change predictors are wrong, we end up with more efficient energy sources and good conservation practices. If the deniers are wrong, our geese are cooked.

Well, never mind. I got all confused about what all the confusion was about, a not uncommon scenario for me. Glad I got a chance to clarify...

I was wondering if anyone has seen "Silver Linings Playbook"? It got a lot of Oscar nominations so I was considering seeing it. A couple of hours watching Bradley Cooper can't be all bad! Reviews welcomed.

I have to side with Drew on this one.....I'm sober as a judge but I don't understand Max's open line headline. mag's real smart and she don't get it either. What about UAMS and Facebook?

And about the weather....I can see on the WeatherBug that it's raining hard in LR, not doing much here after a day of rain. It was 57 for a high here today and it's 39 as I type. It might get down to 32 in Fort Baptist....but I'm not seeing any scary weather in NWA where my babies live.

Our 2 elderly dogs stink to high heavens though we do have 2 bed cats who hate each other. We have never had heat in the bedroom....long story....but we have one fine 50 dollar king size electric blanket and I keep a 70s Lady Kenmore bonnet hairdryer without the bonnet next to the bed when we need a little more heat on really cold nights. Yeah, mag thought it was crazy too when she first met me, but changed her mind on the first cold night back in 1982.

It will probably be too cold tomorrow but I was planning on cleaning and oiling up the 1830 model Kentucky long rifle that's protected my family all these years. My granddad shot his first rabbit with it in 1900 and it was about 70 years old then. I've decided it's the weapon I will use when America starts fighting Civil War 2 over guns, not slaves this time around.

The sucker is real long and I might have to use my baby grandfather's trick and rest it on a stump until Dick Cheney walks by....but that trick worked for Granddad 112 years ago and I bet it'll work for me. Bring it, Dick!

When they lived in Alaska, they had to buy Thinsulate booties and a coat for their dog. She would never wear the coat. She finally accepted the booties, but acted like she was being punished if they put the coat on her.
Be careful in those Texas bars. I've heard stories and could tell you a few of my own.

Outlier- I'm in Austin as we speak. High was in the 70s and nice. Tonight the temp dropped 12 degrees in less than an hour! The low will be in thd 30s. We went to Driftwood tonight to a BYOB joint called the Salt Lick. I even wore a cowboy hat for the occasion. The wind blew it right off! Like a tumbleweed! No rain here yet. Glad to be headed home tomorrow.

I agree with everybody! Oh, Wonderful Me!

As I sit here on a rainy night, all surrounded by 4-legged critters, who all have apparently forgotten what the sound of thunder is for, wonderful me is explaining it all in a calm and patient tone. They are beginning to respond. Next I will tell it all again to the coffee table who is somewhat slow on the uptake.

But I do understand (being wonderful me) NB's and Drew's need for a small dollop of meat and potatoes. On this site, that would be politics and religion but, don't worry, it's a mild form and may have already been discussed:

"Bob Ballinger’s 2008 Dodge Caliber rolled over about five times before being stopped on its side by a tree, she said.

Jessica Ballinger said three passers-by stopped. One began to pray and two others kicked in the vehicle’s windshield, unbuckled Ballinger’s seat belt and pulled him out."

Bob Ballinger being a state rep-elect from Hindsville. Anyway, here's the link to the dem/gaz.

www.arkansasonline.com/news/2013/jan/12/re… uh, the link ain't working, try page 1, Ark section, paper of 1/12/13.

It's apparent that prayer does actually work. One evidently prayed that the other two would take some action to free Ballinger form the vehicle.
