@panic .. Sherwood customers spend $14 - $16mil a year on NLRED electricity ... about 15 - 20% higher historically than they would pay if they were First Electric or Entergy customers.

In the face of potential savings by Sherwood accounts of $2.1mil/year at a minimum a potential $25k special election cost is not worthy as an argument point against.

Sherwood voters will get to ...

Vote FOR the ordinance in order for NLR customers to pay 15% more for electricity in order them and them alone to fund the Sherwood $470k kickback for 20 years ...

or

Vote AGAINST the ordinance to have a chance of NLR customers paying 15% less ... saving about $300/year for the average customer or $2.1mil for the Sherwood community every year amounting to $42mil over the 20 years.

The only ones who think NLR has the lowest rates are those who live in NLR and have drunk the Koolaid.

If Sherwood wants to spend the $25,000 or so on a special election then so be it. NLR Electric will still be the lowest rates they get. The irony of calling out NLR for sending out letters to sherwood residents at the taxpayers cost only to call a special election at the taxpayers cost. Very well thought out. I'd be willing to bet that the cost of sending letters out on a bulk rate is alot less than the special election to reopen the bid process for electric rates.

Having worked with the Corp of Engineers, I learned that the gov, on an expenditure, looks at the rate of return for the tax payer. If u look at just electric industry, all forms of organizations, u will see different types of monetary help. The coops are able to borrow money at a small discount of interest, but meet certain finical levels. Cities are able to issue tax free bonds to finance, large power companies get plenty of tax breaks and some studies show they get the most by a bunch. So what ever u want to call it. I guess that is why with the new cliff bill HR8 railroads get a tax CREDIT for maintaining their rights of ways. Maybe Entergy needs that! HA. Although they do charge 35% on their rates for taxes. Check with PSC on that.

The Log Cabin Democrat has a front page report from ConwayCorp on how well they handled the storms and the fact that they had few outages as compared a certain nearby large capitol city, crediting their tree-trimming program whose cost they split between the "socialized" electric operation and the "socialized" cable TV operation. With such a loud Tea Party presence in Faulkner County and head-quartered in Conway, you would think they would be all over this and want to have it sold to the much more efficient "private sector" but since this affects the money they actually have to pay, I guess they just hide it under their Tea Party hats.

I also don't see the Tea Party pushing to have TVA sold to a private business with the proceeds to be used against the national debt. The fact that the local bills would go up 30-40% for the same service might have something to do with this ignoring of a "socialized" operation serving mostly bright red states.

Also, why are we paying to have the Mississippi River dredged so a private company can make a profit on their barge operation? Why are we paying to update the locks on this river also? Hell, we paid to build them for industry, you would think they couild pay to keep them up.

Notice the difference where you hear the Tea Party making their usual noise-its okay for private business be be "socialized" but not private individuals. Don't they realize that people are corporations too! Jake can quote the mathematical law represented in that sentence.

Doigotta, the fairy godmother is called FEMA. FEMA will pay for 75% of all eligible cost and the State, from FEMA money will kickback 12.5%. So what is left is not to much to take care of. This also enjoyed by the electric cooperatives, i. e. First Electric Cooperative, Arkansas Electric Cooperative, and all other electric cooperatives nationwide. As to profits from any suppliers to your city, my guess 99.9999999% sure, it comes from monies each customer paid. It all sounded so nice, but in the end the customer is paying for it, even from a capital credit retirement from the electric cooperatives.
