Brokers make money if you are buying or selling. Only on activity "churn and burn".

If you are dumping losing securities or buying new investments, brokers get a cut.

Easily the biggest commissions days when I was in the bond daddy business was on plumetting market days.

So Wall Street doesn't worry if prices go up or down, simply that they move. And the more the better.

Charles Pierce would be comedy gold if the issues were not so important. He takes Retired General, former Head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, former Secretary of State (and apparently a modern day Rip Van Winkle who has been snoozing for the last 50 years) Colin Powell to the woodshed.

Powell has noticed that the GOP has "a dark — a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the Party."

Powell declares himself a Reagan Republican. Y'all remember Reagan, don't you? He's the guy who launched a campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Y'all remember what happened there, don't you. Y'all remember the names Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner, don't you. I think Powell has a memory problem. Or he can't hold unpleasant facts in his head---they just waft away into the ether in service of I don't know what ideology he holds dear.

I'm listening to President Obama. Wall Street should be self-interested in pressuring Congress not to blow up the economy by not raising the debt ceiling and by shutting down the government. The problem is they have no sway over the tea party lunatics. The tea party lunatics are funded by billionaire lunatics who have enough money to ride out any storm their lunatic minions cause.

He's definitely not wise. He's a tad chubby to be healthy. I don't know about wealthy, but I'm sure he has aspirations in that department.

Oh, wait. Davy Carter is the Speaker. He at least looks healthy. Wise and wealthy is yet to be decided. I'm getting a sinking feeling about "wise".

But Burris would have to be up early, too, if he noted the lights on in that corner office.

Is it good that some of our legislators are bright-eyed and bush-tailed? That is yet to be decided.
