"It would appear that not enough Americans are starving and scared today..."

The irony, DBI, is that more people aren't starving because of one of the New Deal's greatest achievements---Social Security.

There were no food stamps during the depression. There was no unemployment insurance, no medical insurance. It was Charles Dickens redux in America.

Precisely the things that prevent starvation allow the old folks to saddle up their Hoverounds, put on a tri-corner hat, strap on their guns and attend rallies against the socialist, Kenyan usurper.

I do think there are lots of scared people out there, but they are scared of the wrong things.

And this talk of martial law and WoahII from you and Norma makes me uneasy. When that Yeager fellow, or Alex Jones, or Ted Nugent go on a rant and talk of spilling blood, it feels like it's my blood they are talking about.

I've grown very fond of my blood over these many years and don't want to see it splattered anywhere.

Norma is right. If you really look at the Republican Party back to before Lincoln had a beard....it's the same shit minus freeing the slaves that's gone on since the day the GOP was formed. Obama is getting the same treatment FDR got in 1933. FDR was able to overcome his bad bad Republicans because Americans were starving and scared........

It would appear that not enough Americans are starving and scared today or they wouldn't keep voting Tom Cottons & Tim Griffins into office. But don't worry, unless The One is able to bull his way over them FDR-Style, we'll have many more millions who are starving and scared. But by then it may just be too damn late.

Of course Civil War 2 over guns will accelerate the starving and scared and a whole lot worse...so what....me worry? I was working on a disguise to wear when the AR15s are unleashed on the innocent but after a bunch of Googling I didn't find anyone, old or young or black or white or rich or poor or tall or short who hasn't been blown to bits by a LONER GONE WILD armed with an assault weapon. Invisible isn't a disguise I can manage. Flat! I'll work on being flat!

But frankly, the GOP has doubled down on every antiquated position they've clung to for decades, like Captains going down with Titanics.

Irrationally, they refuse (most of them; there have been a few apostates like Newt Gingrich, but who listens to him anymore?) to admit they're a dying party unless they change drastically.

The problem with "changing drastically?" Nobody would believe them.

"We didn't really mean all those things we've said for decades."

"The Tea Party is NOT the GOP."

"We're the NEW GOP."

The GOP has long since cornered itself with their base of rich old (and dying) white male dinosaur racist bigots, misogynists, homophobes, war-and-weapons mongers and religionists--and their Biblically subservient women and dependent children (even grown up ones like Franklin Graham and anybody named Bush).

The operative words are "cornered" and "dying."

All they have left is the desperate hope that they can foment armed insurrections (ostensibly over taxes, spending, gays, the Second Amendment, secession, God or SOMETHING)--another Civil War--and impose martial law.

Who knows? Maybe they can.

It's no solution to ANYTHING, but it's all they've got.

Because change, science, evolution and admission of failure is nowhere in the GOP platform.

They're a party of Trolls.

ARMED Trolls.

It has been evident since before I was born that the GOP is out for the GOP, not for America.

As one of my favorite Beltway insiders told me last fall well before the election and my adventures in Tampa: "They are horrible people."

"As the fiscal cliff fight seemed to make clear, the majority of the House Republican Conference is actually (and quietly) a lot like Boehner – members who are ideologically conservative but who recognize how destructive Tea Party orthodoxy has become, both from a governing standpoint and in terms of the party’s overall image. But, like Boehner, they’re still scared of defying it, of being branded traitors to the cause, and of losing their jobs to Tea Party-backed primary challenges. This led to the January 1 spectacle, when the vast majority of House Republicans voted against the fiscal cliff deal – even as Boehner was assuring the public that most of them wanted it to pass.

"It raises a question as the debt ceiling battle takes shape: Even if most House Republicans understand the necessity of raising the borrowing limit, how many of them will actually be willing to go on the record doing so if it means encouraging a primary challenge?"

Maybe if they had questined their spending then and their stupid tax cuts and the wars, we wouldn't have had Georgie 2 leave us with $6 trillion in additional national debt and a recession. And while you may not like it, IT IS GEORGE BUSH 2'S FAULT THAT HE LEFT THE COUNTRY AS SCREWED UP AS HE DID.

Raising the "debt ceiling" in the traditional sense is not the only option. Why not just eliminate much of "existing obligations," much of the debt and interest? That can happen with a few keystrokes. History s filled with currency gimmicks, jubilees... or horrific collapses. We are not in a unique situation. We are not that special. The only rocket science here is the PR lies and propaganda utilized to keep you in the myopic box from thinking/insisting upon the obvious so the looting may continue. Under Obama or Cotton the plan is we remain mired in the jaws of the finance sector, free trade, unsustainable debt. joblessness, poor health at highest cost, military madness and ever declining rule of law... forever beholden to an impossible repayment/ one way stream to the very rich.

Do y'all think we as a nation should remain forever beholden to criminals with impossible ponzi/mafioso payment schemes? Obviously both the Obama and Cotton do agree we should. The very framing by Obama of placing responsibility in the Cotton party hands.... says that is exactly what he wants/likes. That Obama is bereft of any idea/ intent/alternative to change the criminal/debt status quo. One guy waterboards the nation, the other starves them to death. Reject both or expect continued decline of empire at best.

It's not about us, except for the looting.
