Nice hyperbole, oldphart. At least your not as shrill and stupid as Child or Zat. I would pay good money to see you shoot a sawed off 50mm at quail. THAT would be a sight. Didn't know the AR was anywhere near comparable to a 50mm cannon.

Wait, it isn't. Just for you, bubbie, shotguns are good for quail, ARs are good for prairie dogs at 500 yards, and deer out to 300 yards. Moose will laugh at you if you shoot them with an AR, then the moose will tap dance on your head till your mulch.

50mm sawed off would be good for that pesky pterodactyl. Might want to get one for such an occasion.

E.S., you've been dippin' into the Phillip K. Dick novels again, haven't you? Just calm down. If you'll take a peek just 3-4 pages in from the front cover, you'll see the word "fiction". That basically means it ain't so. Just tryin' to help.

I know what you mean, Steven E, I've shot many a quail with my sawed-off 50MM. The trick is you have to just hit'em right on the tip of the beak which takes their head off right at the shoulder leavin' all the good meat intact.

There's Republicans and then there is Mister Republican:
...
"Then, in 1991, four years after the controversial Brady Bill was introduced in Congress and with passage again in doubt, Reagan penned an op-ed in The New York Times titled "Why I'm for the Brady Bill." In it, he expressed support for a seven-day waiting period before a purchaser could take possession of a handgun, an even more stringent restriction than the five day cooling-off period that was included in the final legislation, and less stringent than the 15-day cooling-off period he signed into law as governor of California. Reagan stated that prohibitions on sales to felons, drug addicts and the mentally ill had "no enforcement mechanism" and that "a uniform standard across the country" was necessary.

Regarding handguns, Reagan stated, "This level of violence must be stopped … If the passage of the Brady bill were to result in a reduction of only 10 or 15 percent of those numbers (and it could be a good deal greater), it would be well worth making it the law of the land."

Finally, in 1994, Reagan successfully threw his support behind the Assault Weapons Ban in a joint letter to the Boston Globe, saying, "As a longtime gun owner and supporter of the right to bear arms … I am convinced that the limitations imposed in this bill are absolutely necessary."
At least DBI can wear the thin veil of sanity, whereas Childroland is just an insufferable screech. Poor child, so much pent up racism and hate running through his veins, as to make insane proclamations, free of fact or reason or logic.

Bless your heart.

Then there is DBI, the perpetual victim, who desires the rest of us to become victims. Never mind that your hypebole regarding our supposed militray grade' weapons is so far off the mark. At least he doesn't march into the vapid bombast of child's little rant that you cannot hunt with an AR. Lot of good small game has been taken with an AR. So Child's idiotic statement of an AR sucking at hunting is pure stupidity, vomitted from the mouth of a creature that hasn't the first freaking clue about firearms. At least DBI can APPEAR rational.

Kind of like watching the difference between a raving maniac (Child), and a cold psychotic serial killer. Both are unhinged, but one hides the lunacy better. DBI is more like Klebold, who calmly walked the halls of his school, certain, like DBI, in his purpose. All are wrong, but that doesn't dent their fantasy life. Meanwhile others die, or suffer. They don't care.

DBI, bless your little heart.

I've been talking to my Republican friends about gun reform and what I get back from every single one of them is DEATH TO ALL INFIDELS! These are nice people who don't live in trailer parks, aren't covered with tattoos, aren't married to their sisters, never worked for Blackwater-Xe, love them some Jesus...white upper middle class, public board-sitting people yet they almost start screaming LU-LU-LU-LU when I say I want all assault weapons, clips, & ammo banned and confiscated in the future. LU-LU-LU-LU....is nice hair the new American burka?

For my safety, my children's safety, the safety of my unborn future grandchildren and the same for everyone of you I don't want military grade weapons in the hands of citizens. If all I desire was put in force tomorrow it would take 20 years to see the effects, so starting today is very important. Hurry!

My kids shouldn't have to die for your hobby. If Mrs. Lanza had collected stamps instead of military grade weaponry we'd be talking about trashy TV today. Stamp collecting hasn't killed a living person since stamps were first invented. At least 4-wheelers only kill the people riding them poorly. Get a new hobby!

Unhook from Fox News & Hate Radio and your need for a bazooka will lessen. Yes, our President is black and our next one will probably be a woman but the black guy isn't coming for your regular guns and our first female President probably won't come after our porn. You can be sure that all Presidents will come after our tax money unless you're of the Lucky Sperm Club.

We gots no Mental Health Care unless you have millions to privately hospitalize your crazy brother. Crazy White Loners have us all in their gun sights and for that reason military grade weapons must be banned. If the next Crazy White Loner decides to go to a school armed with only regular weapons, it will take him all afternoon to kill 27 people with the guns I have in my house. It ain't perfect, but 1 dead is a whole lot better than everyone in the building. Let's hear it for 1 dead! Yay!

If Civil War 2 breaks out next month over guns, gun nuts will have the advantage over me because I only have regular guns. But wait till they see what the Federal Government brings to the fight. I don't really know what the word POOF sounds like but in the 3 day Civil War 2 we'll be hearing POOF a whole lot. Big bad patriots with big bad weapons will make big messy greasy spots when Droney sees you from way up in the safe safe sky.

Freedom is wonderful but we can no longer allow Freedom To Be Stupid with a Bushmaster. The gun lovers I knew in the 60s have morphed into fantasizing Terminators and so have their weapons. We can't live like this. The same can be said for profit loving US corporations using Free Trade to ship all our good jobs to other countries leaving us Free to Starve. We can't live like this either. America has to change now if you want your children to live happy, safe lives after you're gone. That's my hope and prayer if I prayed.

Keep your weapons and give up your super weapons. Stop ignoring crazy people getting crazier. Demand mental health care for all who need it. Demand universal background checks even for Wal-Mart shoppers who want to buy a shopping cart full of high powered ammo while they pick up some milk. Have some common sense and stop that LU-LU-LU-LU business when someone talks about gun safety! Let us have a more successful 21 century by dumping our bad 20th century ideas and prejudices that killed millions.

The assault weapons ban has been nation wide since 1968. Just to remind you an assault rifle is a rifle that fires on full auto or has selectable fire capability. Semi auto rifles are not automatic assault rifles!!!!
All these semi-auto sporting rifles only cosmetically resemble the military firearm. Kinda like a woman looks good from afar, but you get closer and discover she was beat with an ugly stick.
Yeah, you're probably right since upon birth we automatically become a member of the militia in this country. I've yet to receive a paycheck from them. Maybe, it's because I haven't bought my assault rifle yet.

President Clinton announced the numbers several years ago about how many felons and other non-qualifying persons were denied the right to buy a firearm a few years after Brady bill. It was a pretty big number. Wish I had saved it.

Saying we can't register, track or restrict guns is like saying the same thing about motorcycles and autos.

Discharging a firearm is illegal in the city limits of Spdle. It's rigorously enforced unless you are in a licensed firing range.

The major short-coming of Brady bill-supported background checks was a very incomplete data base. It's been vastly improved since the Bb was passed.

Meanwhile I see our wingers are still peaceful and content with complete violations of the 4TH and 6TH Amendments.

I guess it was the Commercial Appeal's way of trying to intimidate gun owners. It didn't bother my parents any. They live out in the country and feel much safer with guns.

As to the question of background checks versus ban on assault guns - it illustrates nicely how insane the debate is. The vast majority doesn't think of military assault weapons when they talk of "gun rights". These weapons need to be banned - nationwide of course, state by state bans obviously aren't effective - and the public supports that. It's only bona fide lunatics who say the opposite. To call that a "side issue" which shouldn't detract from the "real issue" - oh wait - background checks - is beyond stupid. Well-implemented background checks are an improvement over no background checks but they don't work magic and weapons will still find their way into the wrong hands.

Universal background checks! Hell we are already to the point where government murders/vaporizes/bug-splats, even American citizens and their children all around the world based on nothing more than "patterns". No charge, no trial, no conviction... just drone murder by remote control based on current universal background checks. There are already talks of the day drones have the decision making power when detecting certain patterns to just go ahead and vaporize on their own. No need for a person to give the order or pull the trigger. And y'all want to present universal background checks by this State as something reasonable or secure! Total and utter madness.

All based on various applications of a Disposition Matrix (the universal database). A government which already imprisons more of their own brethren than anyone else in the world. We've known for decades the mental health is sorely lacking in this country... yet what we have done with this obvious "universally known" information is the very antithesis of improving things. When so-called liberals take the universally clear knowledge about our abuse of mental health and unapologetically demand universal care for all, which includes mental, dental, optical care rather than treat these things like bling options on a new car... perhaps they will have earned a tiny shred of credibility.

The last entity which should have any ability to universally check you is your Government, the largest most well armed war criminal/police state enterprise the world has ever known. Have you people lost your cotton-pickig minds? I've often said to Second Amendment advocates that they have perilously lost sight of the others amendments (such as 1st, 4th, 5th) and this call for even deeper background checks of many millions of entirely innocent people is a perfect example why. Our government should not only have the bare minimum of ability to know about us, it should be taking great strides to make sure other entities (such as corporations) cannot collect or maintain, much less sell our data as well. We are not far here from "liberals" suggesting we all have a tracking chip implanted at birth. That we are all guilty until impossibly proven innocent.

It's my understanding the CT shooter was denied when attempting to purchase a gun shortly before he lost it. Lots of people knew more than enough about the Giffords shooter mental state, yet nothing was done.... and so on. Plenty of information available.... to suggest what we are doing/not doing with available information now needs addressing.... not more draconian government measures. More tyranny never works out well.

More data on us is collected and stored than we know about our own selves. And if you look into it... it is to be used against you, not for you. From the Patriot Act and such which means you don't know, can't know, and even if you find out... can't tell your atty., or your atty. can't use it in court. Just looking at the way DOJ treated Arron Swartz says so much about the tyranny we live under.

There is an assault rifle ban in Connecticut. It's pretty much the same as the old federal ban. It bans rifles having two or more of a list of evil features: pistol grips, bayonet lugs, flash suppressors, barrel shrouds, and grenade launchers. That might be incomplete. The rifle used only had a pistol grip.

Note the evil features are mostly cosmetic.

Any universal registration & background check law will be ineffective because you can't know when people are giving guns to family or selling to friends. Some people don't know how many guns they have or don't carry their guns daily, so it could take months to realize that a gun has been stolen. If a gun is used in a crime, a gun owner can easily say they didn't know it had been stolen.

What will happen is that the federal government will use yet another new law and apply it unequally, charging mainly blacks and hispanics while ignoring the whites that do it. If you want more laws to lock up black men whose only "crime" is being black, go ahead and pass this. Just like marijuana laws, gun laws are generally enforced only when poor people and minorities are involved.
