Womack is in the pocket of the defense industry. He'll vote any way they tell him to. I suspect his loyalties may lay with them first, and with the people of Arkansas second.

The Defense Department is the Republican "stimulus" bill. Put all those plants across their districts and then you can bitch about any Democratic "stimulus" plan as wasteful because in your area they are necessary to protect Fort Smith from the nuts in Oklahoma. Especially planes the Air Force doesn't want and engines they don't need and bases that should have been closed many years ago. You can see the impact of the old "Democratic South" in all of the military bases in the South.

If the Republicans want a big defense, raise taxes to pay for it,. This is what George Bush 2 should have done. Do you think we would have stayed in Afganhstan over 6 months if Cheney was having to pay more taxes? No, add 40% to the Defense spending "off the books", don't pay for it. and then blame Democrats for the national debt when $11 trillion of it, and the Bush Depression, are all gifts to the American people from the Republican Party.

Having earned the favor of Boehner, I think Womack can now see a future of having influence in the House, which may keep him in Washington, even though he reportedly does not like the commute. The appointment should be good news for the military. I doubt seriously that he will run for anything other than re-election in 2014.

I would rather see an experienced combat veteran with over 20 years of military service calling the shots than someone who has not served and been shot at. Obama is going to gut our military and has already put the screws (earned entitlement-wise) to those serving and retirees. Having been throught the BRAC process myself, I am not confident those making the call on the A-10 unit are making the right one.

Jason Rapert is a clown. I am a Republican, and I think he is a Class A level clown who needs to calm his ego down. Such a joke. He has done nothing to warrant running for higher office. He'll get primaried and lose. Maybe it'll settle his ego.

So are we all now acknowledging that military spending has little to do with the security of the country and is more about who has the bigger Congressional pull? If our military leaders want to move the Fort Smith base to drones (or close it entirely) why are our Congressmen questioning their judgement?
