Atlas999, may I suggest a retired grayhound racer from Southland (actually Mid-South Grayhound Adoption Options located behind the track). I have had 3 grayhound in succession, one from the New Hampshire tracks, one from the Arizona tracks, and the last from West Memphis. These 50 mph speed bumps know (they can fill a room when they take a nap). They seem to know they have been rescued and make local protective pets. They are crate-trained as that is how they are transported when they are racing. Once a year, the adopted dogs are welcomed back to a party at the track and they get to walk the track, many leaving little (or big) reminders behind. They do need a place to exercise (large fenced in yard) and will need to be on a leash initially as they are sight-hounds and while most I have had can follow a trail of an armadillo later, if they take off, they may not be able to find their way back.

Crap, mine is 8 already. I don't want to think about it any time soon.

We had a cat that died at 18. We had gotten it soon after we bought our present home. After Rosie died the house seemed to lose a portion of its energy.
