Forgive my generalities. I was referring to the fact that while Congress' approval ratings are in the dumps, 85% to 95% of them seeking reelection will be reelected. So allow me to rephrase to fit your pedantry.
Almost everyone hates Congress, enough people love their Congressman enough to keep reelecting the bastard.
I still say that now is the time for the Democratic Party to buy billboards all over Cotton's district outside of cities with shopping and the sale barns to keep harping monthly on what he hasn't doen for the people of the 4th District. It isn't as expensive as some other approaches and it hits the voters everytime they drive by one. Is there any furniture in that place he rented to have a local address? Has he changed his voting registration to Arkansas from DC (if he actually voted there, anyway)? Now is the time to get in his face everytime you can because the Koches are getting his mug (like in mugshot) on TV all the time for a nobody from a small rural district in a state with no political power at all. The man is not a "Bill Clinton" and no amount of money will make him look better. You can dress up a pig but it is still a pig!

Of course the political mood is sour - the vultures from all those rotten eggs laid during during the interminable campaign are coming home to roost. It wasn't a campaign of hope or high ideals; it was a mean battle characterized by lies, ignorance, and bigotry. The best people often did not win; the people who most likely won were the more bombastic and spent the most money.

It was a campaign season that emphasized all of the worst aspects of democracy. And too many people revelled in it, making tons of money grinding out commercials, speeches, and screeds tweaking every prejudice possible. It was an el-auction, spending record amounts of money.

The public saw rancor, not solutions, as the politicians' promises. Voters despaired of ever hearing a truthful statement during the entire campaign. Instead they were beaten over the head with incessant blatant distortions paid for by shadowy moneybag backers. Fact-checking groups were overwhelmed and their corrections were drowned by the tsunami of political commercials and biased "talking head" panels.

People got tired of hearing politicians blather on, not listening to the voters. The politics of meanness is coming back to bite politicians in the ass.

Given that the NRA's messaging has continually and directly attacked Obama, I seriously doubt there's any Dem political capital to be lost by Obama attacking the NRA and their insane ideas. Gun control is a winner, both from a political and a moral standpoint.

It's all upside - it fires up the Dem base, who are glad to see Obama finally getting a set of balls and standing up for what is right, rather than making compromises with the devil (see: Health Care). Perhaps Fighting Joe Biden is responsible.

Let's face it: we all know that anything proposed by the Republicans is bad for America, and anything they oppose is a good thing to implement. Gun control is no exception. The NRA's mission is to help the firearms business by increasing gun sales, and anyone who confuses that with "Freedom" is not paying attention to the NRA.

The Senate ought to pass a bill that increases the money for every department and increases taxes on the upper 1% to 90% and the estate tax to 85% and then let the House howl.

This is more game playing and is the reason that Congress has a lower preference rating than bed bugs and cockroaches. However, they didn't poll them against their principal comparison, a 2-bit cheap whores. That might have been even but I doubt it.

Coupled with our embarrassing Arkansas delegation we have the speaker of the house boldly proclaiming his "threat" to make the senate pass a budget bill in exchange for extending the debt ceiling for three months. What kind of diplomacy is that? It sounds like a child saying play my way or I'll take my toy home. Meanwhile Cantor is announcing that all of this will advance his "budget."
