I've tried to call them but the line has been busy. When they have time to answer the phone, I'll run that question by them. Try the online Log Cabin Democrat, you'll see that we have our share of gun crime. We've had several murder trials recently. It could be that we're just better shots up here so the victims don't stop at the ER.

Well, gly, it sure isn't from broken fingers, smashed fingers, or scraped elbows. Guns have one outstanding quality that CB just loves-they can do more damage faster than an ax, hammer, or baseball bat. and the assault guns have only one purpose in their design-kill as many as they can, as fast as they can, as long as the buillets hold out and with the 30 and now 100 cartridge drums, they can hold on long enough to wipe out 1/10th of the US House but that wouldn't be a major loss. Hell, the Koch duplicating machine and re-districting would just give us their clones but without the chrisma.

If the desire for large magazines is for target practice, then limit their their use to shooting ranges. See how easy that would be. I don't even want my neighbors around here doing their turkey shoots with a 30-shot magazine since most have to have someone hold their beer while they are shooting. And an assault rifle wityh a large magazine isn't designed or legal in most areas for hunting (sure gut out a squirrel fast) or for self-defense unless you want to have to replace your home when you are finished.

And CB, what's you stand on the "cop killer " bullets? Need those for hunting also? They should be off the market except to police departments for SWAT teams only. If that doesn't suit you, how about they be forced to sell at cost to the police and a tax of $100 each shell for anyone else and let's recover some of that drug money. Hell, I agree to apply the receipts to the George W Bush memorial national debt.

Wow, a lot going on here today it seems and a lot of folks for me to "correct" Coolbreeze has decided to be on duty 24 hrs a day. This could go on for some time unless he runs out of meth.

But I've got to give him credit. He suddenly turned all articulate on us in that one lengthy post. The reason for that sudden transformation is the revelation that he is an educator and a preacher having gone to college and the seminary. Who knew? The usual dumbass postings are just a change of pace setting us up for the occasional fastball. Good strategy.

And Eureka is back too with his usual post but with some of the sentences slightly reworked. I asked him last week what his political philosophy was and he didn't respond, no doubt, disliking being interrogated like that. I've been researching this question myself, trying to find some philosophy or political movement by which I can pigeon-hole him. No luck yet though. Is there one that just means "I'm pissed off!?".
When the revolution comes and his side comes into power and start to implement his brave new world, there'll be no worries about throwing out the baby with the bathwater. There is no baby, nothing of value here. That should make the transition easier for them.

Then there was the guy that asserted that emergency room doctors caused more deaths by mistakes than deaths from mistakes at gun shows. So should we should take away their stethoscopes? That's close to what he said although his was in a pithy little format that might fit on a large T-shirt but too long for a bumper sticker. I checked it out though wanting to be fair, as always. After still more research I found out that, yes, he is correct. But like the real pundits always say there are devils in the details. It seems that the doctors and nurses at the ER nowadays have more than they can handle. The workload is overwhelming with the sheer number of cases and they have to work extra hours to cover everything. Yes, mistakes are made. It turns out that the number one reason for this problem is the sheer number of people showing up with gunshot wounds. Relatively few of these are from gun shows though so I have to give that poster credit.

And I might add our worship of the free market is why we pay more for less health care than any other developed nation in the world, and why we have Nixon-Ford (aka Obama)care rather than the far more effective, efficient and life-saving Single Payer.

For far too long, we have allowed the falsehood that private industry is always better than government to stand without being challenged, and so we should not wonder why the risk management (ie health insurance) system costs 5% of total costs in Canada and 20+% here. The 15% difference is the friction in the system, the wasted money, caused by profit-seeking, by multi-million dollar CEO salaries, by mergers and acquisitions that do nothing for customers, by marketing.

The only political system that I am aware of with a 100% fail rate is libertarianism. The nations that are kicking our butt are doing it with political systems designed for the greater good. Our nation prospered when we all worked together; our nation is failing now that we have become selfish, now that "I've got mine, Jack, so fuck off" has become our national motto.

Government is an institution, created by God, through which we cooperate to do things together that we cannot do alone. When you define it as evil, you essentially define civilization itself as evil.

Unfortunately, the views of some try to beat you down by insults and lengthy rants because of your choice is awful and I am like the television anchor in the movie that raised the window and yelled, "I'm not going to take it anymore!" I am elderly, low-income (and have worked many, many years) and barely make it financially. I am just a small step away from disaster all the time. I hope to see real issues settled instead of taking away the women's rights and deny help to those in need. We are the greatest nation in the world. Let's act like it! It's as though there was a gypsy who put a curse on my great grandmother when she was pregnant with the Welch boy who would hand his 'atitude' down to me and went to a seance in Sallisaw. http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/…

The truth goes marching on. And the truth is that there's nothing wrong with gay people and dope smokers. Well, yeah there is, cause ain't none of us perfect, CB. Gay people and dope smokers are just like you and me. So are the black people and the people born on the fur'n speaking side of the border.

And the truth is that the world is warming up, and that fossil fuel is a significant cause of change in the weather.
I just wish the kids today could know what it's like to get in a car, and put the key in and turn it and be free. That's about as close to perfect as it gets, especially when I turn back west on AR 84.
Death - I think those 1970s drugs are taking a toll on you....my god man. The USA is clearly not better than it was in say the 70s - 80s.

It will be back once we rid the planet of the concept of childish communal Liberalism ( a nice notion) but not practical and it will ALWAYS FAIL.

Obama and his minions are traitors to this country my friend. You Libs may have this blog and Obama and his minorities that want a hand out, but that will run its course and I will laugh last.

You and your Lib friends will be the dinosaurs of a failed philosophy. History will laugh upon your ideologues.

You were my first non-apologetic openly atheist friend and when you didn't explode in a ball of fire it set me to thinking and examining my beliefs and learning where they came from...and I discovered they came from pure superstition....not a place anything good comes from, ask any witch from Salem, Massachusetts if you don't believe me. Thanks so much for that!

Well gee, CB - Christmas isn't perfect either, and I bet you could come up with 5 reasons you don't like it either. Or at least a list of 5 things that are wrong with it, but you still celebrate it, doncha?

And ES - what is it with perfection today? Are the two of y'all without sin? So to speak anyway.

I think the greatest take away from the just completed inaugural hoo-ha was that silly line in The Battle Hymn of the Republic:

His truth is marching on.

And the truth is we march on toward a more perfect union. And we do, in spite of all those on both ends of the spectrum who bitch and moan about not getting everything they want.

Looks like a great day in DC and a great day in Fort Baptist, it helps me to feel a little hopeful....hopeful that 4 years from today we'll live in a happier, better country. Of course the rich will still be in control 4 years from now as they've always been and always will be.

Hopefully they'll be forced to lighten up on us, suck up less, share a little more, meddle a little less and figure out depopulating the American workforce isn't in their best interest either no matter how much it fills their Swiss bank accounts. May they take these 4 years ahead to think about how deranged they've become to have picked Mitt Romney as their presidential candidate. Nothing says you've lost your pea-picking mind like a bumper sticker or yard sign saying I Like Mitt!

4 years from today a lot of our dinosaurs will be gone and the world will be a better place. I'll forever be a 20th century guy but thank Allah and heredity my thoughts, views and feelings moved into the 21st century in real time. Yes there was a time I didn't see anything wrong with segregation. Yes there was a time I feared anyone not exactly like myself. Yes there was a time I thought a woman's place was in the home surrounded by cookies and kids. Yes there was a time I didn't like queers...why can't you be normal?

In the 20th century I believed in God, I believed in the Republican Party and I believed America was right in all things at all times no matter how many people we killed here and around the world. The Vietnam War would save us from Communism. Orville Faubus and George Wallace were protecting our southern values and preventing mongrelism from diluting our noble ruling blood.

I was a child for the last half of the 20th century and I thought like a child but as I grew up and in the last years of the 1990s something woke up within me. I can't name a person or an event that triggered a change in my childish thinking and prepared me to enter the 21st century as a thinking, compassionate man not entrapped by old values, fears, hates, prejudices and thoughts that I couldn't shake off.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Well, we should fear greed. We should fear hate. We should fear dishonesty. We should fear racism, bigotry, misogyny and extreme religious zealotry. Rather than fear we should use these next 4 years to stamp those things out once and for all.

The truth is our guns don't protect us. Our real protection comes from the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the rule of law and the power of the ballot box. It's those things that freed the slaves, gave women the right to vote, desegregated our schools and businesses, and gave the sick, disabled and elderly a means to live out their lives with food on their tables.

Our history proves WE can do anything if we stick together. WE do horrible things when we split apart. I hope over the next 4 years more and more Americans will want to stand on the right side of history...letting go of their "guns and religion and antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Good luck to President Obama in his 2nd term and may WE bless America through our thoughts and deeds.

Wow, Coolbreeze co-opts someone else's writiong without retribution and then comes out wioth his standard group of lies.

Government got bigger under George Bush 2 and has gotten smaller under President Obama. Gas taxes haven't gone up in 20 years at the federal level. That is the reason that the highway repair funds are getting too small to do the work and the state passed a bond issue.

You can have Obamacare,e.g.,Affordable Care Act or you can have your personal health insurance costs continually go up, your taxes go up to pay fro Medicaid care, or your hospitals close but you need to get costs under control. Medicare for all far better but then again, you wouldn't have the healthcare insurance companies getting their unproductive 30% of the American Healthcare Costs. Take out 30% and we are still 20% higher than any other country.

And you can love up your guns all you like. No body wants to keep you from sleeping with your "pal" but you have no need for large magazines unless you are in the military. And for all you gun nuts (and you are if you find that you can't live without snuggling up with your gun in bed every night), the words "well regulated" proceed that part of the 2nd amendment that you can't forget. Go and shoot each other but get them under lock and key. The president doesn't want your guns. But when there are more guns than people in this country (and there are), maybe you level of intelligence is somewhat warped.

And on your 4 and 5th Amebdments, go and talk to Bush 2 again since he basically violated all of the Bill of Rights except the one on quartering British soldiers because none would come over to allow him to do it.
