Oh, then there's Slicks in the old mall at Capitol and Main.

As far as me being downtown, most of my walking distance options are Subway or are overpriced and not all that good. I don't mind grabbing a couple of coworkers to try and find something that might be a little more adventurous and new. It breaks up the day nicely.

We even discussed doing a food tour of UAMS, but decided the parking would be difficult. And we've discussed going to the State Hospital as we've heard from reliable sources that the cafeteria there is good and only $4.50. Maybe we outta check in there too if we're really considering it :)

I just like the idea it takes you away from the normal chain joints and into maybe another building you've never been in before.

I like the idea of this type of column. Thankfully, I haven't spent much time (no more than 30 minutes visiting) in any of the hospitals in town. If I was there for a longer period of time, the last thing I'd want to do is spend time searching for decent food. Knowing what the options are on the front end is certainly helpful. Would make my time away from my loved one's side much better spent.

@abbie- really excellent suggestions, I'm planning on doing a guide to the Capitol Bldg in the future.

@nbodd- I'm definitely not suggesting you make a trip to the hospital for lunch. Just to clarify, the point of this guide (and future guides like it) is to help you make decent choices if you are stuck in the hospital for whatever reason. For heaven's sake, if you don't have to eat at the hospital but are in the area, go to HAM. But my wife was at UAMS recently for 3 days after giving birth to our daughter and I didn't have the time to run around Little Rock (or even run home) for food. This guide is for people in such situations.

If you don't mind a bit of a walk from the main hospital, there's also a Boulevard Bread in the College of Public Health building (faces Markham). I think it's open until about 3pm.

Yeah, but what if you found yourself visiting someone in the hospital? This guide would help you out. I wouldn't consider Midtown to be an "unlikely" place to get food since it's known they sell eats and drinks.

Yeah, I'm not going to the hospital for lunch, sorry. Decent meal in an unlikely place: half-price burger and $1 PBR tallboy (aka "the kickball special") at Midtown on Sunday.

Daniel, my coworkers and I have been on a kick like this too, finding meals in unlikely places, mostly in buildings where you wouldn't know they are there. Since we work downtown, we've only started exploring those options, including the Capitol Cafe (underneath the state capitol), Cafe 1515 (hole in the wall over by the Capitol), J & S Cafeteria bottom of the main Blue Cross building. I believe there's supposed to be one in the Goodwill services building? Then there's the cafe at Heifer...
