That may seem overly simple but I can't see any other option. Do you think a criminal with a gun is not going to go in the school because if a metal detector? Or a security guard with a radio? Get real.

No no no. More armed guards just leads to more kids being pushed into the school to prison pipeline. There should be more social workers/counselors/therapists in the schools than armed guards.
I recently read a story about a young woman who was acting out in class. It turns out she had recently been raped. Most cops in the school won't take the time to probe the causes of a student's behavior-they'll just try to lock them up.

As a retired drug dealer, I am compelled to add the 5th "R". Ritalin. Actually, it should be first in the list since, with a lot of kids, it makes all the others possible. At the very least, it's good for business and what could be more important than that? Just ask the NRA, they know all about it.

"Anyone who clings to the historically untrue — and thoroughly immoral — doctrine that "violence never solves anything" I would advise to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and of the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler could referee, and the jury might well be the Dodo, the Great Auk, and the Passenger Pigeon. Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms."
The form sent out to parents lacked basic information about what is going on with the schools. There was nothing to indicate what the survey would be used for or what type of armed guard may be under consideration. There was no information about the form being apart of a larger process or at what point the public schools are at in that process. The schools have a serious communication problem here.

The idea of guns in schools is as asinine as forming a human barricade to block the entire border with Mexico. Folks, the world is not going to get any safer than it is right now no matter what you do. We are a violent species that is now very much in each other's "territory" due to the explosion of the population accompanied by the sophistication and proliferation of the killing devices (guns, bombs, chemicals, etc., etc., etc.).

I am interested in thoughts on this matter from parents who have students in the schools and teachers who work there.

We all have a philosophical opinion on this matter based on our views on guns. But unless we are someone directly effected by this action, our opinions remain just that.....opinions.

Let the parents and teachers make the decision.

The idea of using renta-cops to guard a school might work if the agency contracted meets the needs that a city police officer would afford. A few years ago the base was using Pinkerton services for gate security. That worked pretty well I thought.

If the quality and integrity of using contracted sercurity services were same as using police then OK.

What I don't want is a volunteer force of school parents patrolling the grounds with firearms.

I think we should keep treating children like rats in a cage. Schools under constant fear, lock downs (as CT was), tiny windows or shades completely drawn. And send them home to either play violent video games or watch TV news which tells them (in its most honest moments) just how horribly violent all of their elders/leaders are... or be entertained by TV with multiple graphic violent horrors all night long.

Because it's worked out so well over the last few decades with the "adults" we have now.

Colombine had armed security... that worked out well.

A nation with 50 million denied health care, one million homeless school aged children, impoverished children at historic numbers, a nation of torturers who wages global war on an emotion while maintaining the largest prison population (25 percent of the worlds prisoners) of its own citizenry... should definitely line its schools with more armed "security". WHen doubling down on myopic fail doesn't work, keep doubling!

what was his name? oh yes George Zimmerman, just wait until one of these security guards shoots a kid in "self-defense". Oh I can hear it now, But but but I thought he was armed.
