The services can set objective minimum requirements for front line combat that everyone must pass. Whatever the policy makers set, it may exclude some women from combat but it may keep many men off of the front line too. But they shouldn't set requirements that discriminate on sex or color or ethnic background or religion. You can't exclude too many from combat or you might not have that many volunteers that make the cut.

It's better to have some women out on the front in today's wars, because lately, it's been about a lot of insurgency. I'm betting counterinsurgency is more successful if there are women out there interacting with women in the civilian population.

Do you think it makes a huge difference in their combat performance later that our enlisted men slept together during their training?

Do the NFL players perform better because they live and sleep together?

Yes, I can imagine the reality of combat and close living conditions out in the field. But I think our men and women can be mature and disciplined enough to handle it. Or they can be trained to be. (I know there have been too many incidences of rape, and the Defense Department needs to get a handle on that. More female officers might help).

If one is so curious and has formed opinions based on limited information and preconceived notions, they should research how things are now here and in other countries where women participate in the armed services.

My 41 year old sister went through the Air Force training a few years ago. It was easier for her because she's been running 5Ks, 10ks, and marathons for years. She's a captain. Other than boot camp was hard, I'll ask her how the arrangements were in her squad. It never came up and I never thought to ask until chauvinist idiots came out so publicly.

I saw my sister's graduation photo of men and women that had all completed the same courses and training, proudly standing in smart looking uniforms. Often, they get stopped in the airports and on the street and are thanked for their service to their country. There are only a few NFL players that get stopped and thanked for their military service.

I'll take my CAN DO attitude over your SO WHAT attitude any day of the week when it comes to combat, military, etc.

The main issue is respect for ALL citizens and for our Constitution which gives us equal rights. That's where you and I differ, CB. You are not a true freedom-lover in my book. You only want those you like to have freedoms. To hell with the rest. That's what happens when you breathe in too much Agent Dumbass.

Most importantly, history has shown that you're completely in the wrong on this issue. And ignoring history is a major symptom of those suffering from cranial-rectum inversion. In your case it's inoperable.

We can swap insults all day, my conservative "friend", but in the end, history has erased your foolishness long before I replied to your ramblings on the subject.

After all, with the way things have gone with war in the last decade, they are already in combat, so they should be rewarded for it and their contributions acknowledged. There is no such thing as a "front line" any more.

Having served in the US Army from '71'-'79 and did a few dances with the elephant as they say, I see no problem with fighting beside whoever is willing to join in and fight with me. A person's sex has absolutely nothing to do with firing a weapon nor does the incoming notice what's between your legs or on your dogtags or the various pieces of culture you tote with you to your destiny.

If you want to demote someone to a second class citizen simply so you can keep some silly and antiquated notion in place, then you are a fool. If anyone is willing to go in harm's way, no matter how dire or dangerous or demeaning it may be, then you have no right to despise them or make some mewling argument that suggests crudely that those brave individuals cannot strike a blow for liberty as well as you can simply because of what's between your legs or who you love or what you believe.

What monstrous hypocrisy comes forth from CB. In one statement he accuses someone of being a wimp and in another he supports the view that women should be wimps and that it is the right and proper course for them.

CB, I would suggest you blow your brains out, but since you'd have nothing to aim at, said attempt would be futile.

The real wimp is CB. He is afraid to let citizens exercise their rights and privileges. Let not his peurile views and questions fool you. CB is what we in the service used to call shithouse lawyers. That's basically the extent and value of their arguments and judgments.

All over Europe there are restrooms that for either sex. You just create doors, not half doors (more like you may have in your home if you have inside plumbing).
