rc, it is your Republican friends changing the rules in the states where they think they can win part of a "blue" state. They won't follow suit in the south, not becauser it is a net "loser", but because at least our representatives have shown they aren't real good in math.

If you want to elect the president according to popular vote, do it with a proper constitutional amendment to abolish the electoral college - not the crazy, untested multi-state compact scheme.

If the change can't be done right, leave it alone. The existing system where each state decides how to cast their votes is still working fine.

Yes, the District in Texas with Austin would certainly be a Democratic district. The South also has major cities that might throw a portion of a "red" state "blue. Be careful what you wish as the city populations are growing and the rural areas are getting larger and larger districts full of land but few people, e.g., Tom Cotton's AR-4. The Reopublicans might want to try and make it on square miles where they might have a chance with all of those empty miles in UT, NM, AZ, CO, and even TX.

It would certainly change the dynamics of the elections. You'd get all sorts of split votes in a lot of states. You could have rural votes going for one guy and city votes going the other way.

Jim Crow? Maybe you should take a class in U.S. History or U.S. Civil Rights. These courses are offered at any local university. Democrats have enjoyed bashing the Electoral College for far to long. Two states, Maine and Nebraska both allocate electoral votes to the winner of each Congressional District. The system seems to work well. This would allow people in states like Illinois to see their vote count more, currently Chicago decides everything. Look at statistics.
