I'm more than willing to turn left for the little guy across from McDonald's if I know it's going to give me value for my money. I used to own a restuarant a little bigger than this one (Famous Hanks), so I hope this can be some useful feedback to the people who own this place.

I came for lunch at 1:10, ordered a cheeseburger, fries and chocolate shake. It took every second of ten minutes. I was more than willing to wait when Frank--God rest his soul--was at the grill because I knew that slab was going to be seasoned, hot and perfect.

Since there is no where to sit, and I didn't want to sit in the parking lot alone spilling my food on my shirt, I took my meal back to the office half a black away. I stole two fries from the bag--as is my custom-- and they were so salty I had to spit them out. That is a first for my fast food buds which have tolerated a lot of crap over the years.

I dug for a few more and they were a little less salty, but were undercooked. Three on a scale to ten.

Then tried to wash the salt out with a tug on the shake. Color of chocolate, cold and creamy but there was NO taste. Perhaps my buds were reeling from the salt. Two of ten.

Back at the office, I noticed the burger was not wrapped in foil. Folks, charge me an extra nickel but if you don't have seats, this foil is a must. Paper does not hold heat. However, since it literally took me one minute to get to the office, I was hopeful.

Sadly, things did not get better. First, no cheese. Second, the bun-warming was overdone and the bun was now a crunchy shell on the outside and dry in the middle. Third, the patty was too small for the bun. Fourth, the onion overpowered EVERYTHING. Two hours later, my hand still smells of the onion. Fifth, the meat was not seasoned, was dry and was not warm--which made me wonder what took so long. If the patty is fresh and not frozen, should take no longer than five minutes with this size patty. I presume it was the fries, but 10-minues for this small order was way too long. Check the heat of your oil or cook them in oil on the grill.

I also might suggest to the owners that they cook their patties to rare and then have them soaking in brine so that when a customer comes, that puppy will be seasoned and hot and juicy and ready in two minutes.

I'm sorry for the bad review. I made a much better burger in my place and still lost all of my posterior in the business so I'm hoping you all had a bad day. I'll try once again just because I hope the McDonald's manager will someday look across the street and see a full parking lot. But--not at this rate.

Tried this burger joint yesterday. Very pleasant owner/cook/cashier-he "does it all" took my order of cheeseburger, fries, Barqs Rootbeer. The meat was handpatted & was probably 4oz, leafy lettuce, sliced tomato & a thick slice of white onion on a soft bun. The fries still had some skin on & were lighty salted. This is not a fastfood place, it took about 8-10 min. They do have a veggie burger listed on the menu. Better than McD, BK or Wendy's & definitely better value.

      I tried it tonight.

Pros: cheap prices, good chipotle mayo, pretty decent for the price (way better than Burger King)
Cons: takes way too long to get the food, doesn't look like they (or should I say he) could handle more than one or two orders at a time

I'd add another Con to the list that you couldn't pay me to turn left out of there during high traffic times of the day.
I hope they are good though. Close by and simple and affordable menu. I definitely respect that.

Pros: Menu is cheap, everybody knows the location (the old Hop).

Cons: Geez, do we really need another burger joint in Little Rock? When this was going downtown on Main it made sense -- not a lot of dinner options there. But Cantrell? There's probably dang near a dozen places to get a burger along Cantrell.

Good luck to 'em, and I'll try them out...but we aren't exactly in a burger desert here.
