Well, with all the enmity, frustration, and religious ranting being the norm of this particular post, it's time for a resolution. Ban sex from the country, that and having children. Just like the prohibition on alcohol, a federal law should be passed banning any human from ever having sex again and after a certain date, no children will be accepted. Of course that means that the only way the country could keep going would be to make sure a fresh bunch of immigrants would come here vowing to never have sex or more children. It might be really hard on the last batch of Social Security and Medicare recipients and the world economy, but I'm sure the proper adjustments would be made. This resolution would be a boon for republican employment checking on all those bedrooms to insure nothing illegal was happening.

This is about as reasonable and logical as some posting here. Notice I said nothing about the 2nd amendment.

Mean Gene and the outlier, many liberals actually truly do argue for abortion rights over human rights. Prochoice advocate Elizabeth Williams came out and said that on 1-23-13 in her article on Salon. We hear reasons for abortion such as poverty, and child abuse, but why not consider adoption? Instead, the political left will stop at nothing to push the pro-abortion agenda. Why not stop and take an honest look at when life begins for the unborn child and when she begins to feel pain?

I can understand national publications like the Huffington Post, NY Magazine, and other liberal blogs being mislead by this hack job on Jason Rapert done by The Nation, but it is truly amazing to me that Max Brantley of the Arkansas Times Blog who prides himself in always being completely honest would buy into this hack job on Jason Rapert. Brantley lives here in Arkansas and he should be able to get to the bottom of this. It clearly comes down to being on the liberal team that opposes pro-life laws and he will take up for those who are involved in the hack job if they are prochoice. In his weekly podcast at the 7 min mark Brantley said he listened to Rapert’s comment in context and contends it was a racial comment. Furthermore on his blog Brantley asserted, “Rapert defenders contend he was talking about minority political interests, not minorities, references to the Obama birth certificate, Muslims and a Ramadan event notwithstanding.”

But the truth always does come out eventually. John Lyon of Stephens Media did have a balanced article that included an explantion from Jason Rapert and Jason Tolbert also gave both sides.

JasonTolbert on his blog www.tolbertreport.com reported:

The comments receiving focus have to do with a portion of Rapert’s speech where he discussed “minorities.” Here, context is key.

Here is the quote The Nation posted in an edited video (emphasis mine)…

“I hear you loud and clear, Barack Obama. You don’t represent the country that I grew up with. And your values is not going to save us. We’re going to take this country back for the Lord. We’re going to try to take this country back for conservatism. And we’re not going to allow minorities to run roughshod over what you people believe in!”

____________

Tolbert continues:

So what did he mean by minorities? A separate portion of the video (see below) sheds light on this (again emphasis mine). Before the above remark, Rapert addressed the case in which the Arkansas Supreme Court overturned the ban of gay foster parents saying…

“Here in Arkansas we tried to do something about our values on that. We said ‘You know what. Where we have foster children, we want them to be in a good home with a mommy and a daddy.’ Do ya’ll think that’s alright? Well, right here the other day a bunch of your Supreme Court Justices just struck it down – said your vote don’t count. I am here to tell you that we are a people who is ruled by a majority in this country. And I am tired of minority interests that are running roughshod over you and me.”

I suspect that articles in the national press that make reasonable residents of the state shudder, send ripples of pleasure through the wingnut population responsible for those articles. They are getting their message of defiance out, in their alleged minds, and many of them are deluded enough to think that people in the more civilized regions actually agree with them at heart. You can't do much about those kind of delusions.

(by the way, you will notice that plainjim is back. I got tired after a few days of using my real name to have people come up to me and comment, "So you are the nut who is putting all of that crazy stuff on the Arkansas Blog? And using my real name caused me to exercise some self-censorship that restrained me.)

"The finest moments in the film, which premieres Friday in New York City, focus on Koch's rise to power in the late '70s, when the Big Apple was a powder-keg metropolis engulfed in financial disarray and a crime wave. Koch—a closeted homosexual and iconoclastic liberal—is depicted as the consummate political shark, siphoning off key constituencies during a gang-fight-like mayoral election in 1977. "
I just finished watching the video of Jason Raper. This guy is a disgrace. What a dispicable human being. He makes the Jimmy Swaggarts and Jim and Tammy Bakers look like nice people by comparison. How can anyone put any credence in this guy much less vote for him. It says worlds about his supporters. I wouldn't want to have dinner with any of them.

That video is the first time I've seen or heard Rapert in action. When I was a young man charlatans like that were heard on late night AM radio when the signals didn't fade too badly, then again on Sunday morning AM when radio time was the cheapest. They often sold blessed prayer cloths and amulets to the unwary who sought redemption via low-cost means. All AM-Radio rantings were sprinkled with fear and emotional appeal. Many of them had pleading voices like Rapert almost begging you to unify with them in their fear of commies, niggrahs, integrationists, and anything considered different from you n' me. There was always "Hell" and "the Devil" awaiting those who refused.

There were no payday lenders and fellows like Rapert would hold meetings in tents and move town to town, usu on Fridays or Saturdays just when pay was handed out before the families bought their weekly can of lard, sack of flour, sugar, dried beans and a few pork steaks then filled up the Chevy carryall or truck.
Big bottles of soda were unheard of. Frozen pizzas were not to be seen. Pork n' Beans were the fast food.
Mixed in between taking some money out the little brown pay envelopes to give the revival preacher were healings, laying on of hands and the afflicted would be made to walk, or see or able to raise their arms over their heads as never before. Often the revivlalist would have a big pile of crutches and wheelchairs stacked on the stage.

One crowning moment came when I was about 12 and had been reading newspapers and news magazines at the library. McCarthyism ran strong in Arkansas. It was a slick dressed, black haired, pleading-voiced fellow from Tulsa whose take that week hadn't been so good so he cranked up the ante on his Second altar call, with an electric guitar playing background of a heart-stirring gospel song, he had all heads bowed ranting about how the nation was going to hell and Jesus was the only answer, partly crying, partly pleading he said 'I know there are communists in this crowd who won't give one cent to this revival campaign but I know there's enough god-fearing Christians who will." That did it. The little brown pay envelopes opened up as never before.

My mother dragged me to a few of those when I was a pre teen, hoping to shape me into a nigger-fearing, god-fearing young man before the "world" got hold of me. My dad would laugh about those preachers and make sure mom had little of his honest money before she went to the big tent.
Dad was a good Methodist. Back then his faith was affirmed by how much you did for the community- how many food drives you organized, youth softball teams you supported and if you were available to repair the community church when it was needed-that all added up to being a good Methodist.

Rapert must have been a preacher's toddler back then. He's got it all down pat and it hasn't changed much in 55 years.
