Mordy- I've often wondered that same thing about the blasted gravy. For something so simple and relatively inexpensive to make, why cut corners and use a mix? We live in the South! We're supposed to be better than that! It would be permissible in South Dakota, but not in Arkansas.

Had a delicious lunch at E's Bistro this week. Sweet potato and black bean enchiladas, yummy, yummy, yummy. Side salad with champagne vinaigrette was good, salad was a little plain, but the vinaigrette was very good. Only other complaint was that service was a tad slow for a working stiff. She has a sign up saying lunch only for the time being, broke her foot and not doing dinners. Not sure when dinners are served again.

@Mordy...totally agree with you on the Mr.Chen's take. Went there with the fam for lunch. Thought the soup for 2 was weird. And I don't rec the egg drop. But the Beef Chow Fun and the Steam Buns, as well as the fried dumplings were devine. IMO, best Chinese food in town.

Here's a small rant...is there anyone in LR who serves a decent egg roll? I am so freaking tired of these test-tube shaped ones that just taste gross.

Homer's West is now serving breakfast, starting at 8am. Mr. Mordy and I tried them out this morning, and for the most part, we were pleased. The eggs and thick cut bacon were perfectly cooked. The fried potatoes were OK - crispy on the outside, but rather boring. A little onion or pepper would have improved them.

But here's my rant...Mr. Mordy ordered gravy to go with his biscuits, and it was the same white gravy they use for their mashed potatoes. We couldn't think of a single place in town that served a scratch made, sausage gravy for breakfast. It's not that hard! Some fat, flour, milk, sausage, and S&P - if I can do it, anyone can! Have we really gotten to the point where gravy from a mix is so expected that it's acceptable? /rant

Finally tried Mr. Chen's, and ending up eating there twice this week - once for lunch and dinner. My only complaint, and this is picky, is the soup. Everything is "for two." Well, that's great, as long as you and your dining companion like the same soup - which Mr. Mordy and I don't. Also, most places included a cup of soup in their lunches, but Mr. Chen's doesn't, but charges the same price. Not enough to keep me from going back, because everything I've had there has been fabulous. If you haven't been, do yourself a favor and go now. Order the steamed buns as soon as you place your drink order, because they take a little while.

@DW, we were not interested in trying another new Mexican place either, but with that said, I'm still looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the tamales at LaPerla.

We need an authentic Cuban restaurant in LR, I really miss Miami's little Mom & Pop Cubano diners.

@stevethedog, I think it is ridiculous to ridicule a place simply because you ordered something that you did not ask the price of beforehand. So, I will counter your comment by saying I love Riviera Maya (I eat there 3 or 4 times a month), the staff is always great there, and their sauces are pretty slammin'.

I'm so sad to see Route 66 go, those chicken and waffles were quite tasty, a bit fatty but so good. Everything at that place down to the bbq sauce on my kids meal was fantastic.

I have a suggestion on where not to go, Riviera Maya, the food has never been good but the drinks and cheese dip tend to be decent.
Went there last sunday and we ordered two large margaritas and cheese dip, our tab was $38, apparently those large margaritas (equivalent to half a pitcher) were $16 each! I could not believe it, especially when a pitcher is only $20. I was furious that the waitress didn't mention the price, I figured a small margarita is $3.50 the large could not be more than $6-$8. The price wasn't written anywhere and I'm waiting on a call back from the owner, though it's now friday and I have called several times with no return call.
It's not even about the $38 tab, that's fine but at least warn people or write the price somewhere or hell suggest a pitcher instead!

Looking foward to Slim's chicken though it's proximity to my house is a danger to my waistline, any word if they will sell beer like the location in Fayetteville?

Was hoping to brag about chicken & waffles at Route 66 Diner, on Cantrell. Alas, when we arrived for breakfast this morning, they are gone. A brightly colored sign announces the new restaurant at that location as Lupitas Mexican, which we will try at another time.

Does anyone know if Route 66 has set up shop at another location?
