I fail to see the problem that Churches & religious organizations have with the affordable care act. The regulations on contraceptives don't cost them & there are no rules that force any patient to use them. All they have to do is order their flock to not use contraceptives or have an abortion...problem solved...right?

Take the contraseptive coverage out of their insurance coverage but don't lower their rates one penny. Most consective are NOT abortion pills except in the mind of the Roman Catholic Church and Saline. The morning after pill might fit that definition but I am not sure of the mechanism of action.

Of course, 50% of all abortions are spontaneous and thus we will have to have RAPErt sue God for that since I am sure that Saline forgives that one. Don't know where RAPErt wants to shove his probe on that one but like they say, don't hold up a 1 iron in a thunderstorm.

      Death

The Catholic Church of my youth had a good supply of preists and nuns since there were few if any options for the ughly or gay members.

Then after it became able for gays to go out into the world and have a job and a life then the priest/nun pool drained overnight.

Long hours, virtually no pay and no family (chastity/poverty/seclusion) of their own was just too much of a hard sell.

When I started 1st grade our parish church and school had a monsignor, 3 priests and 15 or 16 nuns.

Now a new priest is assigned 3 or 4 parishes plus many churches have closed due to no preists.

The church ran out of priests when the potential applicants lost their respect for the church.

Now with the endless constant attack on women's rights and deniel of freewill the same seems to be occuring with women whom were always the backbone of the active church.

All across Europe there are grand cathedrals which are empty save for tourists and a couple elderly women studying for final exams.

The US won't be far behind as more and more women notice the inequality and exploitation they endure.

It has been my experience that hate movements seem to fizzle as the moderate section fades away as the extreme double down on mean. It then spirals into failure since the extreme feel threatened and then triple down on mean and even more of the moderate slink off quietly wondering why they ever had gone along in the 1st place.

DBI--Religion will find a way. The only church in my hometown--population 200--was Methodist, and had an average Sunday congregation of about 10, although all protestant women belonged to the Ladies Aid, which served lunch on Thursday afternoons, and the egg coffee could be smelled all over town. (BTW, many think egg coffee is made with egg shells, on the contrary, a raw egg was mixed with ground coffee, tied into a cloth sugar sack, and boiled in those huge enamel coffee pots. The coagulated egg kept the grounds out of the coffee. It was extremely hot, therefore the custom of adding cream and cooling it in a saucer.) Membership was ten cents a meeting, and for your money the whole family could eat--potluck sandwiches, jello and cake usually.) To fill the church for Christmas and Easter, children were added to the program and a choir was rehearsed using teenagers. Mama went sometimes. Daddy never. Mama got religion in her seventies and started sending money to Billy Graham. She may have been typical for the times, and I was a depression baby. This evangelical push began in Texas when Bush was governor. Add a little rock to gospel and you bring in the young people, then indoctrinate them. But people can be pushed just so far. For 20 years after my marriage I worked hard to follow the Catholic rules. When they literally threatened my life, and security, I went to a priest and begged for another way. He told me to go home, do what my husband wanted and be a good wife. That was not the answer my husband wanted, and once we started questioning, we both dropped out. So then we were in the same shape my parents had started. Only today, some of our children and grandchildren are devout--not Catholic--despite their educations. Who knows?

President Obama promised not to have Obamacare pay for anything to do with abortion in order to get it passed but then he changed his mind and wants now to have companies provide their employees with health insurance that pays for abortion inducing drugs. The liberals at the Ark Times Blog may not see any problem with that but millions of Christians across this country do. This includes some large employers like Hobby Lobby. http://thedailyhatch.org/2013/02/01/roe-vs…

Good! This will open up another little trickle away from the church. Except for Mrs. Duggar this ruling will piss off all religious women. It's bad enough they have to spend part of their time under a rutting, sweaty man, now they'll have a harder time choosing when to get pregnant. Of course we screwed up ever giving them that choice to begin with....(I can say this cause mag is at work!)

Trickle trickle trickle and organized religion will be dead in 30 or 40 years and peace will break out all over soon after. As it's been for those who blow us up overseas, religion is also the main reason life is bad in the US today. People dwelling in fantasy are people you can't reason with. And this victim-hood that comes with all religion makes them mean. Lordy, if I thought someone was dumping on me 24-7, I'd be mean too.

But like ole Khrushchev said about America dying from within, organized religion is doing the same without the help of people like me who mostly just ignore it. I would like to see them taxed like everyone else. They got their finger in all pies especially in politics and education, the only difference between them and me is that I don't have a big parking lot. Tax them! It will help keep them from eating up our neighborhoods building giant Gyms For Jesus! Amen!

Faith of our Fathers has turned into a studded club used to wreck our country and the world for that matter. It's no good, it won't save you from death, won't save your 1st grader from crazy bullets, makes very few people actually behave better though it might have 50 years ago. It's a brand like Coke to use against all the Pepsi people and it has made life cheap and unbearable.

So good....take your Glock to church, keep yer women barefoot and pregnant and have so many kids you'll never have a pot to piss in. Take advice about marriage, sex, and children from Priests who never had any of those things....except for a tasty altar boy of course. It's nuts, you're nuts and now America is nuts. Where is that Rapture??? Bring it!!

Verla, the best I can figure is that this is one of those instances when best should not be the enemy of good.

I think we're on the way - very slowly - to single payer. Too many people are going to fall through the exemption cracks, and once the deadline rolls around and those numbers are discovered it's going to cause all sorts of grief and single payer is the only thing that fixes the problems. Right now everyone is focused on birth control, and it makes for all kinds of back and forth, but what it really does is mask the bigger problem, and that is affordability.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/31/us/polit…

The Obama administration adopted a strict definition of affordable health insurance on Wednesday that will deny federal financial assistance to millions of Americans with modest incomes who cannot afford family coverage offered by employers.

***********

My take on all this - and I fall in to the above category - is that the real constitutional question in all this is about employment. As a non employed spouse, the cost of what is available to me is more than 18% of gross income. That is not affordable, and results in a direct correlation to health care and employment. An exemption benefits the government, not me. What started out as a means of luring employees during WWII will have become a requirement to be part of the work force in order to afford health insurance.

The true beneficiaries are the insurance companies and corporate America, in gaining further control of the masses.

What I don't know is how all of it will implode. Still, birth control is an important fight, one that the religionists can not win anymore unless we let them. They are making as much noise as they can, and they right now still have too much sway in congress, but I really do think we are watching their endgame.

Those "religious" institutions already operate tax-free. They can get away with discriminating against other Americans, using "religious beliefs" as their excuse. Businesses and individuals have to play by the rules, but religious groups don't.

Now, the rest of the taxpayers have to subsidize health insurance for their employees as well. How is this a "fair" compromise?
